Computer Help: Emails bounce back!
I don't know if my problem is unusual or not but I'm hoping someone might be able to help. I've been sending and receiving emails to a hotel I've been using for the last three years. Then suddenly a month or so ago I sent an email, to the address I've always used and I phoned to check that the email address hadn't been changed, and it immediately bounced back saying 'Mail Delivery Failed'. However, the hotel can still send me emails and I receive them. I have tried closing down my laptop and retrying, I've tried using my phone instead of my laptop, nothing works. I and my daughters stayed at the hotel this last weekend, returned yesterday and I received a copy of the invoice by email on my return home. It's very annoying having to phone the hotel instead of being able to email. Any ideas? I can only assume it's my email account - Virgin (NTL). This hasn't happened with any other email address, only this hotel. I checked with the hotel that no one else has reported a similar problem. I don't understand why after being able to send them an email for the last few years, I now can't. Help!

My first thought would be that your ISP has blacklisted that email address for some reason which is preventing the email from being sent.
When you try sending with your phone are you using wi-fi or data? If wi-fi then try turning it off and send an email using data and if that goes through then it is your ISP's mail server that is blocking it.

The hotel haven't changed their email address have they?
I've had the same message when I haven't typed the email address correctly. Fat finger syndrome.

do you have another email?
I use AOL and some places don't like it (despite accepting them for years) - but will accept my Hotmail!

Re: Computer Help: Emails bounce back!
I tried turning the wi-fi off and using data on my iPhone but that didn't work, thank you for the suggestion David. I have the possibility of using a different email which is attached to my family business so my son-in-law is going to set me up with that in addition to my NTL/Virgin email so will see what that does. The hotel hasn't changed its email, I was there this last weekend and checked with them. I have typed the address so carefully so many times so I know that's correct. Funnily enough I needed to email them yesterday so was working out how I could type an email and one of my daughter's could send it which she has done successfully before but then I received an email from the hotel yesterday evening so I can reply directly to that, forward it to my daughter and she will send it. I just can't understand of all the different addresses I send emails to, friends, family, businesses, it should be just this one which has suddenly become a problem.

if you set up another address, see if you can put a redirect in place -then all incoming messages will go to your regular address. It might be possible to set it that although you write on the regular address you can send from the other one. It works with mine. No idea if other providers allow this

In that case the issue is with the hotel. I would make a guess that the mail server that they use has had an update to the rules and is blocking your email or more likely your email domain (the bit after the @), or there is something (a phrase or sequence of characters) within your actual name that is triggering a rules to ban your email. All of this is a common practice these days to cut down on the number of spam emails.CaroleF wrote: 16 Oct 2025, 10:12I tried turning the wi-fi off and using data on my iPhone but that didn't work, thank you for the suggestion David.
