Chris Rea dies

Unread post by Stephen »

Aged 74. I’m surprised he lasted that long with all his health problems.

While we often don’t associate the name to the songs their music lives on.

This year he will not be driving home for Christmas, unfortunately OL must be amongst the few that don't associate him to the song.
So, Tell me there's a heaven, RIP

I beg to differ with that assumption Ray…I would suggest there are many like me who have never heard of the singer.

I'm sorry with my assumption Keith, obviously your taste is more in keeping with your beloved King, and listening to a string Quartet, is how you rock your socks.
May I suggest tuning in to your friend Merv on Saturdays at 0700 Moorland Radio, get it on WiFi. Very laid back show.
Just to say no commission is paid to me for the promotion.
Merv take note. ££££

Hi Ray, your assumption is right. I enjoy a varied taste in music one of which is this fantastic Quartet

We have seen “Bojangles” twice before and will be seeing them again when they perform in Ludlow Feb 2026
What makes their performances really special for me is that I believe them all to be anti-monarchists, although this is still to be verified

Two anecdotes related to the above: I think Bojangles would be good to see live. I guess they take their name from the ‘60s song. The first time I heard it was sung by Gary Wilmot who was performing on Oriana.

For several years our Christmas routine involved picking up our son from work (6pm Christmas Eve) and driving to Aberdeen, hopefully arriving in time for midnight mass. We always had a side bet on the number of time ‘Driving Home for Christmas’ would be played on the radio during the journey. There was also the jeopardy of me hearing Jonah Lewis’s Cavalry song which I try to avoid every Christmas season - the upside of this is that I can avoid all shopping centres during the festive season.
