Re: NHS
Am I missing something here? https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cevnxwp930go
I have no problem with Sussex improving their systems but should this not be a national project? Why are individual trusts going their own way? - all it will mean is that at some point in the future these systems will have to be brought into line. To me this is just wasting NHS (aka taxpayers) money.
And what has happened to the original idea of one big database with all patient records on it that any hospital/doctor can access?

Re: NHS
The amount of money which is wasted in this country is an absolute disgrace. It's across the board no matter whether we talk about education, armed forces, government, health service, immigration..........the list is endless.
Here's another https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c394vjm7n4vo
Not so long ago we had what were locally termed cottage hospitals which treated minor ailments and also provided convalescence and after care facilities. Once you were well enough to leave hospital you went there to complete your recovery. The Tory government in their wisdom closed them down so now we have the situation where those requiring treatment cannot get into hospital because there are not enough beds, many beds occupied by those who should be discharged but are not well enough to go home.
I am just waiting for some bright spark to come up with a brilliant idea for which he will no doubt get a gong!!!!

Probably no longer as they could all be working on it at the same time.Clophill4 wrote: 12 Jan 2026, 11:41it's going to take them up to 12 years to implement and that's for one local trust - how long would it take for a nationwide system.
I also find the 12 years somewhat unbelievable - there is no way that in private industry you would ever consider any IT project taking anywhere near 12 years to implement. In any case in 12 years time IT will have moved on so far that whatever system they have will be obsolete - probably long before then!

This morning I was watching a programme on robots that can do your housework, in the NHS these could replace the cleaning staff, and those many thousands that wander along the corridors with folders under their arms. The savings could be astronomic.

Re: NHS
We have an excellent cottage hospital in our town that includes a minor injuries unit, and various outpatient facilities. It also has two whole wards of beds that used to be available for intermediate care for patients leaving the acute hospital. They are currently mothballed.

Re: NHS
All the respite and recovery care was supposed to be handed over to the care in the community team, who would, supposedly, provide a much more professional home based service, thus freeing up more hospital beds.
Just a shame no one thought to provide it with adequate funding to do the job.

Re: NHS
A home based community service two or three times a day vs cottage hospital care from carers on site. I know which one I’d prefer.
Taking into account carers’ travel time and fuel allowance I hazard a guess their time would be more efficiently spent on site.
Now where’s my gong?

Re: NHS
Having Just come home from being a guest of the NHS hotel service I can honestly say parts are very good while others need allot of work. NHS of the old days it ain’t when you were cared for as well as treated.
God it’s good to be home. My bed beckons
