Hotel Chains
When booking hotels do you look for a particular chain or just see what is on offer?

Re: Hotel Chains
When at Gatwicfk we would normally use the Hilton or Sofitel but on holiday I am quite fond of Dreams, Iberostar or the Gran Bahia Principe chains.
However the bottom line is that we always chase the deal.

We are great fans of Sheraton, having stayed at many abroad as well as the Sheraton Skyline, which is where we always stay when flying from Heathrow. If going from Gatwick, we generally stay at the Sofitel, though last month the Hilton had an amazing deal, at just over £50 so we stayed there pre Barbados.

er... Ken... shouldn't this be under General Chat?
We used to stay in the Hilton when Mr Tesco was paying. Nowadays, we look for Premier Inn. There's no trouser press (which we never use) or swimming pool, and the all-inclusive breakfast doesn't have quite as much choice as a Hilton (but still more than adequate), but overall the standard is identical, in our view.

Pretty much always go for the best deal. Last time we stayed at LGW we used an independant guest house, but that deal involved parking. Southampton we tend go for somewhere in town. Used the Hilton there once - never again, unless a really good deal.

In Southampton we tend to use the Hilton, Macdonald ( Botley Golf Club ) or the De Vere, usually whichever has the best deal.

The Premier inn . I have stayed in them multiple times and they are a consistent reliable product.

Re: Hotel Chains
I stopped having hotel chain loyalty when I stopped getting points from the Forte chain - which was aperk from when I was working.
I have no loyalty to any chain and will just look for the best deal in the location where I want to stay. When going to Southampton we would normally stop off part way down. Last time I managed to get a £10 deal at the Newbury Travelodge, other times we have stayed at the De Vere or Holiday Inn

Re: Hotel Chains
If I am looking for overnight stays, en route then I always look to see if there is a Premier Inn, I like their product, it gives me what I want, and it is consistent. I have one booked for next month, And have managed to get one of their £29 per night room deals.
I love their eat as much as you can all inclusive breakfasts. Will often pop into a Premier Inn for breakfast, even If I am not staying as I did recently in Southampton for my Royal Princess visit.
When I am am doing a drive and stay 7 nights holiday in the UK, at least one a year, then I choose a hotel chain normally run by a coaching holiday company. For example in Scotland the Lochs & Glens company, which is again a product I like, consistent and at a price I am willing to pay.

Premier inns for us as their family rooms are good and buffet type breakfast suits our differing appetites and free children's breakfast. Otherwise holiday inns as wife gets perks with them, 35% off weekend stays or 2 nights for price of 1. We do however do a quick search on laterooms to see if anything good is cheaper. Number 1 requirement is parking. I don't like paying to park at hotels.

Re: Hotel Chains
At the London Airports we use Sofitel, en route from A to B it will usually be a Travel / Premier Inn and that's it bar overseas coaching tours which invariably utilise the higher end chains.
For our short break UK holiday trips we always head for a ' highly rated ' Inn / Country House Hotel, ie never a chain.

Re: Hotel Chains
Depends who is paying
Cos Alex is an Elite member of the macdonald chain..I always look at theirs first (get great freebies and upgrades)
We use De Vere Village too when in Swansea.
Always the same standard and lots have pools and free wifi, Upperdeck and the new Italian in house restaurants.
If either of them are not available I look around.

We're quite fond of the Marriott chain, as we stayed in a good one in Orlando many years ago.
But generally, we'll stay in the most convenient location to where we want to go, in a hotel that sounds nice.

Re: Hotel Chains
We stayed at it many, many years ago before it was bought as part of the chain, it was excellent then and we absolutely loved it. We also booked it a couple of years ago, but had to cancel when I partially tore my Achilles Tendon - FAR too many very steep hills for that! After that we heard from acquaintances that it wasn't quite what we had been expecting.Stephen wrote:We go for the best deal for putting up the tentDark Knight wrote:for holidays abroad...the Atlantica chain

I've already told her she has to be up at the pool with the towels by 6am or we've had it.
