Andrew for King?
A very interesting article in The Times today reminded me that if Prince Charles were to predecease the Queen, Andrew would be the new heir not William; and Andrew's heir would be Beatrice.

Re: Andrew for King?
The line of succession is Charles, then all of Charles' children.
After them comes Andrew, then all of Andrews children
After them come Edward, then all of Edward's children
After them comes Anne, then all of her children.
A death somewhere in that system will not change the system. It just moves everyone a step up. William WILL be king, unless he suddenly dies. That's the only thing that would stop him.
And if William has children, his children will succeed before his younger brother Harry.

Would Anne be last of the Queen's children now, given the change in the law of succession, or would she move up to come after Harry - or indeed young Prince George now?

Thanks for that Delboy. When I first read the piece in The Times, it made sense, but I've now done some research, and agree with you,

Not wishing to disagree with The Times (but I am) I think that this list has probably got it right.
If the suggestion in The Times was to be correct then Viscount Linley (at 16) would not be in the list as his mother (Princess Margaret) has died.

I don't think it would affect Anne's position, only any new females born into the family. If George had been a female she would now be third in line.GillD46 wrote:Would Anne be last of the Queen's children now, given the change in the law of succession, or would she move up to come after Harry - or indeed young Prince George now?

I didn't think the law of succession had been changed just yet - Canada has not officially agreed because they want to poll all their provinces first, as per their constitution. There was talk of Australia doing the same, although I haven't heard that this is official.

William would move from heir presumptive to heir apparent (in other words, everyone in the line of succession would move up a place).
As regards the removal of male primogeniture from the order of succession this only applies from the birth of the first child of the first heir presumptive ie currently Prince George of Cambridge, so Anne's ranking in the succession and consequently her children and grandchildren remains unchanged.
Interestingly if The Queen and the next 500 or so in the line of succession were to board two jumbo jets that then collided with all killed, the Duke of Edinburgh would become King in his own right as he is about 500th or so in line to the throne being a descendent of Sophia, Electress of Hanover, which the 1701 Act of Settlement bases the Line of Succession of The Throne.

Further to the removal of male primogeniture:
Proof that the new legislation is not retrospective in respect of the birth of Prince George of Cambridge is that the second child of The Earl of Wessex, Viscount Severn, is higher in the succession then his older sister Lady Louise Windsor.

Who cares about the line of succession ... how many people do I have to bump off to get Kylie there (and she must wear tight shorts when in public)
