Exclamation marks
I just wondered why some of the posts have an exclamation mark on the left hand side rather than an arrow....

Not sure, but it could be down to the person who creates the topic selecting a specific icon on the 'create new posting'
Alternatively it may be that the posts is a 'sticky' or 'announcement'.
