"Moving Forward"

Unread post by qbman1 »

I have just had an infuriating conversation with a pre-pubescent girl who announced herself as our new "account manager" for one of the companies that we deal with in the course of our business. The fact that we neither want nor need an account manager is by the by !

Anyway, during the course of a five minute conversation, she used the phrase "moving forward" at least five times which really tipped me over the edge !

It set me thinking, what other sales speak or "blue sky thinking" winds you up ?

qbman, you do know that 'moving forward' is another way of saying 'I have no interest in what you want to tell me because I want to monopolise this conversation'.

My favourite was 'You are my project manager and I respect your decision' ... loosely translated to 2 words.

You could well be right, Ken, because as soon as I had the temerity to disagree with what she was trying to force feed me she tried to shuffle me on to someone else and moved forwward on a different tack

Out of curiosity - how did you come the the conclusion that she was "a pre-pubescent girl"

It's usually his second question after 'are you a nurse?'

probably from the pitch of the voice and the poor vocabulary favoured by many youngsters these days?

How about 'light bulb moments' or 'Blue sky thinking'.

Our HR manager loves using letters in place of words. She came unstuck when she asked a supplier to see his certificate of competence.

He said he would e mail it to her but forgot. She then e mailed him copying in our senior partner saying that she still had not seen his COC despite being promised that he would let her have sight of it.

The young lass who works with me keeps saying "Awesome"

"Alan, can you..."
"Yes"
"Awesome"

"Alan, have you..."
"Yes"
"Awesome"

"Alan, did you..."
"Yes"
"Awesome"

"Alan, do you want a hot chocolate?"
"Yes please"
"Cool"
"I'd rather have it hot"
"Awesome"

Apart from that, she's a lovely kid.

'Going forward' is another variant, which is very prevalent in my office.

My particular bugbears are 'hitting the ground running' and 'low hanging fruit'
