Re: links
Sorry cannot do - this behaviour is industry standard - however as MoB says click the mouse wheel or hold Ctrl when you click on a link

Re: links
Meg, you have several choices,
1. right click the link and then select 'open in new window' or 'open in new tab' or
2. click on the link using the mousewheel to open it in a new tab
3. hold down the control or shift keys when you click the link (should open in a new tab)
4. If you are using IE then under internet options -> advanced there is an option 'Reuse Windows For Launching Shortcuts' - make sure this is not selected (I think both Chrome and Firefox have similar - or there is an add on you get for Firefox)
5. There is a registry hack you can do that will cause hyperlinks to always open in a new window (HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\AllowWindowReuse - set to 0)

Re: links
That should work on most touchscreens as well ... it works on my Blackberry and on android. I had suggested to another poster to try that on their iPad so glad to hear that it does work.Quizzical Bob wrote:If you're using an ipad then let your finger rest on the link. A box will pop up and choose 'open in new tab'

Re: links
Ken, do all the above also work if you are on a site which automatically opens links in a new window, or will it screw it up?Kendhni wrote:Meg, you have several choices,

Just looking to decide if I should re-educate my fingers or if I need to remember which site is which.

towny - I know that I am not Ken
but yes all those options work no matter how the site has been programmed.
The current programming standards are that links should, in most cases, open in the same window/tab and more sites will (or at least should) adopt this so getting into the habit would probably be a good idea - although I appreciate that being from the "other side of hills" means that using extra keys will wear your keyboard out quicker
