Car Parking

Unread post by haveabeer »

We usually stay in the Holiday inn or the De vere and leave our car there as well, tried booking for our Celebrity cruise in September
Holiday inn not doing stay and cruise and De Vere is far to expensive its because the international boat show is on
So we are looking for another hotel same sort as those above that can offer parking and transfers
I have seen one at eastleigh that might be ok any other recommendations would be appreciated

The Hilton usually does a pretty good cruise and park deal including transfers. Just off the bottom of the M3. We've stayed there several times and been satisified with the hotel. We've not used the parking package because we've had free parking included in our deal, but have seen others coming and going who evidently have.

We used the Hilton at Xmas with the cruise/stay package they charged us £189 for B&B + 24 days parking + transport to/from the port so it was a decent deal, we chose to make our own way to the port by taxi which was an additional £45 ( thanks to the taxi driver that ripped us off on the return journey but that's another story )

We have always been happy with the Hilton in the past but I must say the room we had was looking tired/shabby, I was under the impression all the rooms had been updated within the last couple of years so maybe we were just unlucky but it was fine for one night.

We have also stayed at the Botley Golf and Country Club who also do a very reasonable package, it is a little further out of town but a very nice hotel, they transport you to the port via taxi foc but you do have to pay for your own taxi for the return journey ( approx £25 )

Hope this helps.

We used the Chilworth Manor twice in December, £165 for bed and breakfast, 14 days parking and taxi transfers to and from the cruise terminal. A very nice hotel and very efficient transfers, would recommend it. Doreen.

I had a booking for September 2013 when the boat show was on at the De Vere. They used a car park behind the hotel (not the usual one, but closer to the shops) - it's by a leisure centre there.

Hi Em
Yes they offered me that option but @£305 a night inc 14 days parking in a standard room last year paid £210 in upgraded room and 21 days parking
just not prepared to pay that

It's always been called the Grand Harbour but was part of the De Vere group. I wonder why it isn't now?

I'd not realised it was Boat Show week, which makes parking in Southampton difficult. In any case I'd be reluctant to leave my car for a length of time in either the Grand Harbour or Holiday Inn car parks, or any of the other "waterfront" hotels. None have secure compounds and after an overnight stay at one of them we came down in the morning to find several cars with smashed windows. Fortunatley ours was not one of them.

The Hilton we already mentioned, or Chilworth Manor, which someone else has suggested and we'd also recommend, are both out of town, as is the Botley, which we've not tried but have considered. So although none of these has a secure compund either, they're less vulnerable to passing drunks etc.

Dave, parking charges from ABP are lower than CPS but to get a good hotel price we have had to go out to Basingstoke for the same cruise. Not a major problem though.

Hi John
We was thinking about that but as far as i can tell ABP you still have to get on a shuttle bus with a ten min transfer to port
looking at there charge £140 for 14 nights plus the hotel it swings and round abouts
It was so easy last year at the Grand Harbour

Can't guarantee that it's the same for all cruises, but on the two occasions we've used ABP, for a Celebrity Cruise and a Royal Caribbean Cruise, there was no shuttle bus involved. It was different from CPS, but only inasmuch as we had to park our own car. We drove to the terminal, dropped luggage, parked car and walked back a couple of hundred yards. As I say it may be different for different length cruises - ours were both short ones, four nights each. On each occasion we went from City Terminal, just inside the dock gate by the Holiday Inn.

We've also used ABP a couple of times and not had to use a shuttle.

When we parked with APB for a Celebrity cruise we had to use the shuttle bus, drove to the car park and parked ourselves luggage was loaded on to a trailer to be transported to the ship from the car park, a few minutes and we were checking in .. it was all very well organised and I must admit prior to I was a bit concerned how it was all going to work.

I think the car park Mervyn refers to at City Terminal is on a first come first served basis as it is quite small and the overflow goes elsewhere.

My experience with Celebrity has been like Mervyn & Trish, however we normally arrive early and we have reserved blue badge parking, which could make a difference. We booked last year when they were offering a 20% discount and only paid £99 for this Canaries cruise.
