Catching up with things on here.

Unread post by Phantom menace »

It's been a while since I've posted/ contributed anything on here and thought it was about time I had a look in. We've had quite a busy time and can't believe where the last 6 months have gone. We had a great cruise to the fjords in august last year and are looking forward to this years cruise to the north cape and svalbard in July. Don't really know what to expect in terms of weather but I'm sure we will enjoy it.

My son starts school in September so we have had to look at school holiday cruises for next year and have booked on Britannia for May half term hols and are currently trying to choose between azura and ventura 14 nights med cruise during the summer hols. We like azura but swaying towards ventura for a change. Does ventura still have the bad reputation? Or is it ok now.

Three weeks ago we had great news in the safe arrival of our daughter, Alice. All going well so far although I'd forgotten about nappies. Tomorrow's job is to organise a christening something that has proven very difficult so far in terms of finding a suitable date.

Anyway if there's anything I've missed out on please update me.

Congratulations PM. Your life sounds very hectic at the moment. Considering a youngster and a baby you are very organised in getting next years holidays sorted.

If you get chance to look back at the posts you have missed you will see nothing much has changed. The cruisers come back with takes of their adventures, the experienced travellers still giving good advice and the crazy posters who turn 'general' threads into a comic. Fun to read.

Welcome back.

Stephen I think you've asked us that before, I think we are different kinds of menaces.

Princess, this years cruise is with thomson sailing from newcastle. We are not allowed to go on P&O until Alice is over 6 months old which takes us in to the start of Williams first term at school. We didn't want him to take him out of school. Thomson basically they let you on no matter the age. We did a thomson cruise to the fjords last year and despite some small disappointments we had lovely holiday. This cruise goes to geiranger, tromso, honningsvag, Ny Alesund, longyearbyen, leknes, bronnosund, alesund and flam. I think alesund is as far north as we've been before so it should be an interesting cruise for us.

Andrea s. My wife is a tax accountant and has spreadsheets for every part of our lives. She is very organised and just gives tasks to me to complete and then report back. It works well as we also look after her disabled mum and my disabled dad which sometimes makes life complicated. We've also had a lot of sitting around time recently as when Alice was a week old William came home from nursery with chicken pox. So far mummy's immune system is keeping Alice pox free, we've got about a week left before we can rule Alice has escaped this time, just touched some wood.

I'm assuming that I've not missed much and cruise ships are still full of bad mannered children hating hand sanitising dodging passengers or inappropriately smoking loud mouth chavs who have turned cruising into butlins at sea with there badly behaved children setting fire to christmas trees. ;) I don't think I've missed anyone out have I? I do plan to have a quick gloss over recent posting for a bit of fun, I can remember a few golden threads on the old P&O forum.

Must go, taking the menaces for a surprise Chinese meal today for Mother's Day as the chicken pox took us by surprise a little and we ended up just staying at home. Thanks for the warm welcome back. P.M.

Every ship has a bad reputation when it's launched, it's a rite of passage. Britannia's bad reputation is due in just under one year

As Ventura is now an established ship, everything is fine now, and people don't routinely slate her!

Personally I've always enjoyed Ventura and have had two fab cruises on her. I don't think there's much difference between the Ventura and Azura, especially as Azura has now also dropped the 'jacket required' dress code, and only has formal and smart casual, just like Ventura. If you liked Azura, you'd be fine on Ventura

PS welcome back, and I like the sound of the cruise you are doing
