Happy Tenth Birthday QM2

Unread post by gfwgfw »

Greetings from a very busy number one UK Cruise terminals

The magnificent three Cunard's Queens have brought trillions of Cruise effectuates to our beautiful city affectionately locally endeared . . . . Soton

Our local radio/tv operatives has given this unique occasion a wonderful spread of interviews and pics

It has been a fantastic occasion

Awaiting the promised ten minute pyrotechnics, but the Balloon extravaganza has been aborted to appease the pesky environmentalist :problem:

A happy weekend to all my lubberly shipmates

It was just smashing this morning - the BBC news went 'off station' so we switched over, and the ITV news was covering the Cunarders - what a great surprise, and a happy reminder of the Diamond Jubilee Cunard event at Southampton and the lovey cruise which followed.

Wish I'd been there today, but not able to be there. However, in the near future I am blasted well determined to get a cruise booked for this year.

So happy birthday QM2 - and I hope that for the folk in Southampton that they were a bit quieter than they were last time I saw them all together.

With a bit of luck and a following wind I just might be able to make it back on board for my birthday. Fingers crossed and well done QM2.

Em

Hi Graham,

I saw on the news about the Cunarders hitting town, and then they said that the Duke of Edinburgh was making a visit to QM2 - and I thought that might make traffic etc either flow better (with authorities clearing routes of parked cars by the kerb etc), or worse.

Anyway, whilst I think it is all fabulous etc., with 5 ships in town - I just hope that everybody disembarked and embarked without too much bother and that everyone had a wonderful day.

Not long now and I can make a booking!

Forgive me for shamelessly plugging my own paper - but for loads of pix, coverage and videos of the Three Queens in Southampton visit http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/news/shipping/

Thanks for that Anneed - and if your publication does a good job, there's nothing shameless about the plug you mentioned.

Smashing.

Arriving at So'ton on the QM2 was truly amazing and when QE and QV "played" Happy Birthday on their whistles, at 5.30 am, as we passed by, was really emotional.

That and the amazing sail out in convoy from Lisbon, were according to senior crew members, the most memorable day they have had.

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience of the Cunarders altogether for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee - but I don't think I would specifically book just for that type of event again.

I am however compiling a short list for 2014/2015. If it happens to coincide with a 'meet up' ok, but I'm not going out of my way for it.

Watched the fireworks and sailing from Hythe Marina, along with many others.. Wonderful display and magnificent spectacle .. Took Kai with us ( for those of you who don't know of Kai, he is our 18 year old grandson, who is Aspergers, and loves cruise ships and cruising) he took some great pictures and sat on the rocks at Hythe uploading them to Facebook. Fantastic evening
