We've been Googled

I don't know if this is normal, but when I Googled the "Protest in Venice" and the top item was the thread on this site about said Protest. All our posts were there. I am not sure I like that. Are we always open to this kind of "poaching".???

This is not "poaching" but normal behaviour and the means by which the forum gets noticed - it is the nature of the Internet.

This forum comes up quite high (sometimes at the top) on many Google searches and is something that I have worked hard to achieve.

If the forum was not being picked up by Google, and other search engines, I would be somewhat disappointed.

I once posted a reply on another forum and then went onto Google to do some more research. The top answer was the post that I had made a few minutes earlier.

I presume we have a 'bot' reading our every word?

Edit: Ah yes, I see there are both Google and Bing watching us right now. How creepy

OK David. Thanks for the reply. I see you moved my post to a more appropriat place. I just wonder how many members know that they appear on Google etc. This topic may not be one that is looked at often. I am still not sure I like this being "shared".

Anyway, I won't say any more about it, I now know that this is quite usual.

Anything you post on a website is accessible by anyone around the world. Are you the same Jayell71 that posts on Tripadvisor?
Google your name to se what it throws up.

Golly! All sorts of things about me came up! Bit creepy, as someone has already said. I have googled my name in the past, but not much came up, but I suppose I have got involved in the internet more and more like everyone else.

that's why you have to be so careful about what you post - you have no idea who is reading it nor the uses to which they will put the info
