Need some support.....

Unread post by JenniC »

I was unfortunate enough last night to witness by son's 10 month old kitten, Marco run over and killed by a speeding car (although to be fair she would not have stood a chance as he just ran out having seen his brother Polo in the front garden). Son and DIL are devastated and grand kids heartbroken. I am sure he did not suffer and it was instant. We held it together enough to bury him in the garden, but today I am shattered as up since 2am and have cried nearly all day, just keep seeing him get hit!!! Poor Polo is walking around the house like a lost soul. I know time heals, and the kids are all off to Majorca tomorrow, so something good to focus on, but I just needed to write down how I feel and I know on here I will get great support. Thank you for reading.

On Jenni, that is so distressing for you and your family. The word family sums it up doesn't it because pets are part of the family and for you to have witnessed it makes it even worse. No wonder you are crying, you wouldn't be human if you didn't. You have made a step forward just by writing it down and I am so glad the grandchildren will have a holiday to focus on from tomorrow.

Look after yourself.

So sorry to hear this news Jenni. We know exactly how you must be feeling. We lost our Millie the same way in February. It hurts like hell, and like you many tears were shed.

Have a big hug from me, catloversRUs.

What a terrible thing - and it will hurt, and you will cry. But, try and 'over-write' the image in your mind of that final event with things that poor little Marco did during that short little life.

Were there times when Marco did something sweet and amusing - try and concentrate on those times, and let the pretty little memories shine through.

Be brave.

All of us who have pets are there with you. Of course you are crying, it is quite a normal reaction to something so horrid. I am so very sorry for you and all the family. Judith

Big hugs Jenni. Seeing it happen will be so much harder for you and watching Polo wandering around aimlessly will add to it. xx

Very distressing . . . but just pop down to your nearest VP

They will be so happy to find a kind home for abandoned/lost pets

I remember seeing a small cat run over by a car, it was awful,- and it must be even worse for you as it was your son's cat.

It's the most natural thing in the world to be upset.

One day the hurt will go, and you'll remember him as a happy little cat who shared your life for a while.

But in the meantime, it's going to be a sad time

My best wishes to you and your family
Gill

Sorry to hear that Jenni, its horrible losing a pet and what happened must have been traumatic, I would have been in bits.
Remember that Marco had a kind and loving home for the short time he was here so he was a lucky cat. Time is a healer
as they say.

Thank you everyone again, it is getting better and Polo has some new toys to play with and he is 8-) spending more time with Missie (their 14 year old cat) and being nicer to her  family is back from Majorca next week, it will be hard for them... But as you have all said, and it is very true, Marco was sooooo loved and sooooo happy.. Lots of animals are mistreated, and for that short time he was definitely Top Cat (well with the other two) ;)

Hi Jenni - I feel your pain - I came out of hospital last week and the following morning my doorbell went. It was a lady holding my cat who had been run over. I went into complete shock - Jaz was still barely alive.

This lady was my guardian angel - she helped me find something to put Jaz in and make her comfortable and then followed me to the vet taking the cat with her and stayed with me whilst they examined her - sadly nothing could be done.

All the family have shed so many tears and it is horrible without her but I will never forget this lady who went over and above what she needed to do on that day. There are still good people out there.

It does get easier everyday and I count my blessings that I had her from a kitten to the grand age of 8 years.

Sorry to hear of your loss Tinker.

It puts your faith back in human nature when acts of kindness like this are carried out.

All the best to you.

Thanks Stephen - all the best with your present health problems. I too was recently diagnosed with health problems and it rocks your world. Have faith in your medical team and don't google and to the rest of you enjoy life while you can cos you don't know what tomorrow brings. :D

Since coming back from holiday, the family were on tenterhooks about Polo and then last weekend he too nearly got run over, missed by an inch and a van that was not driving took fast. Every morning they were outside in PJS looking for him. Any way after lots of deliberations their heads ruled their hearts and Steve and I are fostering him. He has been with us since Tuesday, is settling in well and will stay in for a month, as they do not live that far away so taking no chances. He is a sweetie and Toffee our other cat just ignores him, although she has commandeered his new bed as hers - it is great to know he will be as safe as he can be and that the kids can see him when they want. He even sends them messages and pictures each day, so they know he is happy - Good decision all round.
