Can this year get any worse
First my parents have their cat put down, then our cat gets run over and killed, then my sister has her dog put down, then I lose my father in April, and to top it all off I had some unexpected bad news at the hospital yesterday

Stephen - I was a bit worried about what Jan was sending you - I had to look it up to make sure it wasn't going to add to your problems. Chin up and a hug from the Isle of Wight (doesn't sound quite so exciting as a big Welsh cwtch !!).Jan Rosser wrote:Now come on Stephen where's the cheeky chappie who keeps our spirits up - I'm sure you are a half glass full person and as you say there is always someone worse off - trouble is it doesn't always feel like that - sending you a big Welsh cwtch xxx

Oh dear not so good then? Someone else might be worse off, but this is all happening to you and not to anyone else, so that doesn't make you feel any better. Wishing you all the best. J

Re: Can this year get any worse
Stephen, we had a dreadful year ( 2012 ) it started in December 2011 and just got worse as the months went on, I wondered what we had done to have all the bad luck we seemed to be having, not just what affected us but things that affected family and friends, we got through it though, it still isn't plain sailing ( excuse the pun ) we have a close family member who is seriously ill and we know it is only a matter of time but we have had them with us 12 months longer than we expected so it does seem there is some justice in the world
As you say there is always someone worse off than yourself, whatever your bad news was I wish you well and hope it will have a good outcome.
Jan says it all ... where's the cheeky chappie who keeps all our spirits up, your reply says it all ... you're still here - keep smiling

Stephen, A trouble shared really can help. With a forum such as this most people are supportive and will wish you well. You are the cheeky chappie who makes us smile and something quite silly can brighten the day.
Everyday we read tragic things that happen to other people but when it is close to home that is when reality hits.
Stay strong and keep that sense of humour going.

Thanks all. I'll feel better when I see what the surgeon has to say. Whenever you get a bit of news like this you want get treated yesterday and as I am a NHS patient the wheels move slowly. But hopefully I should get an appointment within the next two weeks. My current consultant who treats both private and some NHS referral patients cannot continue to treat me as he is going to be abroad the next couple of weeks. Bl**dy typical.

Re: Can this year get any worse
Best wishes and Chin up Stephen, I agree about wanting to be treated yesterday, I was quoted 2/3, months for my treatment, but having gone through 4 days of absolute agony weekend before last, I contacted the consultants PA and now have a date for next week at private hospital in Col, but treatment under the NHS.Stephen wrote:Thanks all. But my treatment and OP does not sound as urgent as yours.

Re: Can this year get any worse
Thank you everyone.
The problem was actually found by chance. I went for a CT scan for the whole of my plumbing system mainly to check on some cysts I have on my right kidney. When I went back to see the consultant for the results the report and images showed I had a large cyst on the right kidney, but, it also showed a tumour and blood clot on my left Ureter (tube from kidney to bladder).
As it is an early diagnosis the first consultant feels it should be a simple procedure. We shall see what the other consultant says when I see him.
You could have knocked me down with a feather when I heard the news. I thought 'am I hearing right'. It's one of those things that you think is never going to happen to you and was quite a shock I can tell you. You are all the first people I have spoke about it, none of my family know yet. I'll wait until I've seen the consultant and see what he has to say first.
Anyway, no point worrying. What will be will be. Keep on smiling
All the best with your op Delboy

Re: Can this year get any worse
Firstly - all good wishes for you
Secondly, now you may be getting over the shock, get working on it. Don't be passive - the days when the NHS took your hand and led you through are gone. It's every man for himself. I'm afraid the sharp-elbowed get the best (and fastest) treatment. So - PUSH - every flippin' day if you have to. Once in for treatment I'm sure it will be the best
Look into how you can speed things. Can you get a private consultation to get yourself on a surgery list? Can you afford private treatment? .... That's all very matter of fact now and your local private hospital would be able to give you a good estimate
Thirdly - positivity helps in every way. You seem to have that is spades, so, positively, get well soonest!
