Winter Cometh
Is this a taste of things to come. It's August yet it feels like autumn here today. Feeling cold so have a jumper on at the moment. It's reading 18 out and not much warmer in.
Will the heating be going on
......no chance. Once the cats teeth start chattering then I might think about it.

Re: Winter Cometh
I heard a rumour that it's British mid-summer....
Will the heating be going on? No, there's a box of envelopes on top of it and I can't be bothered moving it!

Re: Winter Cometh
Heating in Towny villas is temperature dependent, and as a result it has been used a couple of times already this August, and I suspect it may come into operation again later today if it gets any colder.

Re: Winter Cometh
I had my heating on for an hour or so the other night, it will most likely be going on later just to warm the house through.

Re: Winter Cometh
Like Towny ours is always switched on but is controlled by a thermostat. So if the technology says it's cold it comes on, and has done so once or twice in the last few days.
A couple of years back we invested in a programmable thermostat which enables us to set different temperatures for different times, for example cooler in the day when we are active, warmer in the evenings when we are sitting down. It also has a holiday setting which enables us to set a lower temperature when we are away - just high enough to keep the house dry and protected from freezing pipes. It can be set for anything from one hour to lots of days. We usually set it for one day less than we are away so the house has time to warm up for our return.

Re: Winter Cometh
We've got settings as well..........ON and OFF. Mainly off
OK, how about another stat (scuse the pun). What temperature do you have your heating set at. Ours is 20 but with the open fire going in the lounge (rads off of course)

Our evening setting is 19, but if we're out, SIL often cranks it up to 26!!

Re: Winter Cometh
Ours is set to 22 but the house is partly open plan so can feel cool. We find if we light the log burner, the heating goes off altogether!
We've just had a new conservatory with underfloor heating, it remains to be seen how that will affect everything - it's been switched on since it was erected, but never actually sprung to life yet as it hasn't been cold enough.
Definitely a little cooler here today, but not at all cold - we're still in the garden in short sleeves and shorts.

Re: Winter Cometh
Yesterday we had the heating on for one hour first thing in the morning. Last night, with no heating, I wrapped myself in blanket. Doesn't seem so cold this morning.
It would be much more economic if the heating could stay off until October, but for us, comfort comes before principle.

Re: Winter Cometh
I informed my husband last night that if the temperature falls any more then the heating was going on. We have one of those moveable programmable thermostats. During the winter the first thing he does is to go over to the thermostat and turn it down. Then he goes out to make coffee or whatever and I turn it back up! This comedy goes on for most of the winter. What I do object to is when he's been out for the whole evening, comes in and says it's too warm and immediately goes to turn the thermostat down - voices have been raised!
We too have an open fire and yes once it's really burning then the radiators go off - no problem. The only problem is that I like to see flames, a roaring fire, he likes to see just a warm glow - uses less coal that way. So there are various discussions about that too!
