Not yet Ray, though I did contribute to a collection at the cricket club last night - when a few hardy souls braved it.

I doubt I'd get nominated anyhow - plenty of blubber layers to keep out the cold.

I'm probably being a misery guts but I think it is a disaster waiting to happen - a heart attack possibly for someone due to a shock to the system or at least a nasty dose of brain freeze like you get from drinking a very icy drink. Sorry but I do think there are more useful things to do to raise money for a special cause.

Not my choice and I agree the possibilities of a heart attack must be there not to mention concussion as so many have seemed to take the whole bucket on their head as well. I take my hat of to those who have done it especially one of the friends of a friend on Facebook who had a whole digger 'bucket' of water tipped on him this morning.

Strokes as much as heart attacks, both very nasty and avoidable.

Well...I think it's fun...and brings a smile to those who do it( after they warm up... ) and those who watch.
They are risks in life no matter what you do.

So are you saying that you should take as many risks as possible? Surely all risks should be minimised?

Nope...I'm not saying that....

But...I would say if no risks in life were taken...what a boring life it would be.

I am not a boring ****..far from it... :D

Not being a misery, but IMO it has got out of hand. It was good when it was just celebs, who wouldn't want to see David Beckham in tight, wet jeans ;)

But now everyone is jumping on the bandwagon and wants to be nominated. My DIL is in San Francisco at a very high level business conference and has been nominated from the UK..... firstly she does not want to do it and secondly she does not have a free moment., working 14 hours plus each day. She is now getting grief as seems you have 24 hours to do it.

Also my 8 year old granddaughter got nominated and she also does not want to do it and got quite upset about it.. I had to tell her it was all OK and not to worry.

But as I said - this is my opinion....

In one of the papers yesterday it was reported that an 18 year old lad from Scotland had died and police were investigating the connection with the ice bucket challenge as he had done that earlier in the day. Mind you, it sounded as though he had also jumped into a quarry and I should imagine they can be pretty cold.

I hate the thought of people, especially children, feeling under pressure to have to carry out this ordeal. Adults can speak up and say No, tough, I'm not doing it but it isn't so easy for children and young teenagers who will worry about losing face.

Sorry but I think it is a stupid idea which we appear to have imported from publicity seeking celebs from America. If grown ups wish to do it that is fine by me but I for one will not be doing it and I won't be forced into donating to charity just because I have refused to take part in this challenge.

Are people forgetting these ' silly' stunts are raising both money and awareness for brain related illnesses.

I am sure everyone has seen the affect a stroke has on family members , friends or neighbours but what most people don't see is the even more devastating things such as Motor Neurone Disease, Parkinson's Disease ,Huntington's Disease , Locked in syndrome and the way individuals and families cope over many years.

A big thank you from me to everyone having a go.

Now you're talking!!!
I nominate............................

..................myself!!!

I see the ice bucket challenge as a bit of daft fun which is raising a lot of money for a very worthwhile charity. You wouldn't nominate anybody with heart/health conditions and anybody who had concerns would not do it. There are loads of risks inside and outside the home. We have to learn to control them and minimise them but if we take everything too seriously we would never leave our seats - and even then we risk obesity and its attendant problems. You can't win!! Que sera, sera.
I was taught to be cautious

I saw a video of a mate of mine doing it. He made his little speech nominating others to get involved, then turned to his bucket of water and opened a bag of ice and tipped it in, then poured the lot over his head. Now I'm not accusing my mate of doing this and cheating, but it did occur to me that if you do it that way, starting with a bucket of HOT water, it would still be pretty warm as you tipped it! Good plan eh!

I filmed my daughter and grandchildren doing the ice bucket challenge on Sunday. Grandchildren are 5 and 6 and they really wanted to do it and fully understood what it was for. They loved it and screamed and laughed and ran around the garden. Personally I wouldn't do it as I have various health problems but I donated to a cause that I never would have thought of before which is surely the idea.

Well said.

My daughter and her friend did the Pies for Parkinsons challenge using a different approach. They doused each other with each ingredient that you use to make a pie, including topping it all off with custard and then did the Ice Bucket Challenge which went some way to cleaning themselves up!

Of course it's all down to common sense, if you choose do it or not.
But to pour scorn on those who are willing to make a fool of themselves to highlight the causes they believe in is uncalled for,IMO.
My MIL died a horrible death due to undiagnosed MND, so anything to bring awareness to more people is good.
I didn't feel any pressure to do it, just felt I was doing my bit to highlight the condition.

PS, we do donate to charities on a monthly basis too, but this is quite different.

Wolfie,

I love it. That sounds like the ultimate challenge. I bet there was loads of laughter.

Lets hope that one day there will be a breakthrough .
