Thanks Jo
It did work and I loved it. Have a real soft spot for Penguins anyway so I am more than halfway there.

Thank you Jo
I have just clicked on to your link and have seen it for the first time and WOW.
As always John Lewis tells a story in a simple way. Simplicity at its best.

Aaaaaw that's so cute! JL get my vote anyway, it's the monthly coupon for free hot drink and a cake - goes right to my heart to think they care!

Re: John Lewis Christmas Advert
I wish we had a John Lewis in our town, the nearest to us is Sheffield and parking is terrible there so I don't go very often, although I do buy online but it isn't the same as wandering around a store
There was talk when our Coop closed last year that JL were interested in the premises but nothing came of it which is a shame because it's a lovely building and quite large and basically no competition from other retailers.

Me too Jo. Our nearest is Cardiff, which is not as good as the one at Cribbs. I seem to be ordering from them on-line much of the time. We don't have a Waitrose either, and I would love one of them too. One day - maybe!

Although our John Lewis is only a few miles away I do buy on line and have item delivered to the Waitrose in our nearest town.
I have only recently bought an Ariella evening dress from them and had that delivered there. I know it is better to shop and try on before you buy but this was an amazing bargain and fits like a dream so I was lucky I suppose.
Cant wait for my next cruise to give it an airing.

'fraud I'm not bowled over by it. Backing track is dull ( & don't get me started on the glottal stop!) I know they are very successful and must be very popular but I'm afraid I haven't liked a JL Christmas ad since 2011 ( the one about the boy who is desperately waiting for Christmas so he can give his gifts to his Mum & Dad ). Still won't stop me spending there for Christmas pressies.
On a slightly different note, it is surprising how thin John Lewis stores are on the the ground. On a recent trip to Leeds, I asked a passer by where John Lewis was. The replied that it wasn't open yet ( it was 9:45am).
'When does it open?'
'About 2 years time.'

Anne, Ariella dresses are lovely well done you if you got a bargain, I have my eye on several evening dresses in JL I really don't need any more so I am waiting for the January sales and if the price is right I will buy .. if they sell out - well it wasn't meant to be so I won't be too disappointed
I actually prefer buying evening wear online as it is pretty certain it is 'brand new' and hasn't been tried on by umpteen people so win win !!

Since we record all the TV series we want to watch, we don't see the adverts, except as we fast forward through them. I keep telling YouGov that for people like us, programme sponsor advertising is what savvy firms should be using.

Re: John Lewis Christmas Advert
Back to the OP. JL advert scrumptious! How do they think them up.
Our nearest JL is Cribbs Causway, went there this week. We do have Waitrose and there is a rumour that Debenhams in Cheltenham will be closing and JL will be going into their store in the Arcade. That'd be good, but the store would not be a "proper" one, it will have limited selections so we will still have to go to Cribbs.... specially nice to have lunch in M & S Deli bar.
