Phil Hughes R.I.P.
A sad time for cricketers everywhere, and especially for Phil's friends and family, including Sea Abbott. I am still ambivalent about a ban on bowling very short and fast. I prefer to see a yorker, late swing, slower ball, flight and spin to deceive the batsman rather than those which threaten serious injury.
I can remember when the late Colin Milburn was hooking Wes Hall and Charlie Griffith into the stands. He was exceptional and had a brilliant eye. For many mortals the split second measurement of pace, direction and bounce is too much, and ducking and swaying are the answer. R.I.P Phil Hughes.

I don't know the first thing about sport but have obviously seen this on the news, such a tragedy and especially for one so young, my heart goes out to his family.

I also feel for poor Sean - a tragic accident.
There's loads of comments suggesting that the best thing he can do is carry on in memory of Phil and become the best cricketer ever

A tragic accident.
I feel sorry for the poor bowler who is understandably distraught.
We must be psychic Meg

Very sad - but that is the nature of sport unfortunately.
I just hope that there is not a "knee jerk" reaction, as some of the media is suggesting

Phillip Hughes, a young man gone too soon.
.
It is heartbreaking that someone loses their life whilst playing the game that they love.
Any sports person knows there is a risk element but the 'gentle, game of cricket is not one that jumps out at you as dangerous.
The injury to Stuart Broad earlier this year showed that helmets are not foolproof but hopefully manufacturers will try to ensure that tragic accidents like this never happen again.
Cricket players and fans from around the world have been paying their tributes which hopefully will bring some comfort to his Family and close friends.
It is probably going to be very hard for Sean Abbot to come to terms with this but at 22 he has a future ahead of him and I do hope he will soon be playing again without fear. There is much media coverage that he may be unable to continue as a bowler but I hope his cricketing friends encourage him to carry on.

A friend of mine playing for Leighton Buzzard Town C C hit the ball first bounce into a pram being pushed around the boundary. He was very seriously affected by it and as I recall never the same batsman again.

Fortunately, fatalities are very rare whilst playing cricket, in fact I believe this a first
Phil had a short but chequered "innings" for Hampshire
A very sad end to a very nice young man

Yes RIP Phil Hughes.
Many years ago I used to play a lot of cricket, my wife never forgets the day when she opened our front door and found me standing there, my nose splattered across the front of my face, lots of blood and my lips looking like large inflatable rings, where I had been hit full in the face by a cricket ball.
When at school I was also hit full in the mouth, by a hockey ball.

Re: Phil Hughes R.I.P.
A tragic, totally unexpected accident - he was playing the game of his choice which is not reckoned to be dangerous. Many other equally gifted sportsmen and women are killed whilst taking part in the sport they love, which continues unchanged despite their loss.
Enormous sympathy for the Hughes family but the administrators of cricket are unlikely to over-react, nor should they.
He seemed to be a likeable young man who will undoubtedly be missed by many.
