Hoegh Osaka on the way back
I see the leaky Hoegh Osaka is on the way to Berth 101. Isn't that right next to the City Terminal ? Hope no Royal Caribbean passengers board her by mistake !!

Get down there quick QB, may be able to pick up a cheap Limo, just a few dents and scratches, but brand new.
Don't worry, be happy

BBC lunchtime news suggested all vehicles on board are likely to be scrapped! I think I will put my name down for a Range Rover Evoque, even if its a left hand drive.

Plaudits to all the maratime expertise in averting a serious hazard to the Port of Southampton, it was a close call

They aren't bothered about plaudits since they stand to make millions out of this salvage.

Yes I can be cynical about some things but on this I thought I was just being realistic.gfwgfw wrote:towny44 wrote:They aren't bothered about plaudits since they stand to make millions out of this salvage.

This firm are known as the Rolls Royce of the marine salvage business, according to one report I read, and clearly their performance has shown this to be true.
However if the Hoegh Osaka had been 40 years old and in ballast then I imagine it would have been the Hillman Imp of the salvage world that would doubtless have been employed, and the end result may well have been less than satisfactory.
Yes, maybe you're right Graham I am a cynic.

An interesting point Towny, but given that the ship was lying close to such a busy and lucrative shipping channel, with a danger it could shift further at any time, I'm not sure any less effort would have been made if it was a rusting hulk full of cow manure!towny44 wrote:If the Hoegh Osaka had been 40 years old and in ballast then I imagine it would have been the Hillman Imp of the salvage world that would doubtless have been employed, and the end result may well have been less than satisfactory.

Re: Hoegh Osaka on the way back
They have done a good job, but all the parties have been incredibly lucky, and the man who deserves the most credit, is the pilot who thought of putting it on the bramble bank before it capsized. If it had capsized and sunk in the main channel off Cowes you could have kissed goodbye to a few cruises, and the port of Southampton would have lost a heck of a lot of business.
Of course it has given the media experts loads of programme and column space.

Thought you might like to see this smashing picture of the ship being towed in last night, from our old friend Quizzical Bob. He sends his regards, by the way

Re: Hoegh Osaka on the way back
I was impressed how quick they managed to get her afloat again, let alone manage to tow her back to port.
Well done them. Money well earned.
I bet Costa Cruises wish they employed their services now, could have saved themselves millions.
Right, I'm just off down to the car accessory shop for a couple of bucket loads of body filler. Got me name down on roller
