Calling Time (of a different sort!)

Unread post by Not so ancient mariner »

When I first saw the title of Em's post I thought it was referring to closing time in a pub, and a novel way of announcing it. Anyhow, about 40 years ago I paid a visit to my great uncle, who lived on the edge of Lyneham airfield. One evening we went down to his local for a pint of two. The pub had a pet mynah bird which kept people amused with the occasional choice phrase. Anyhow, at the end of the evening, the landlord duly called out
"Time, gentlemen please!", - to which the mynah bird added "Get out, you b*ggers, get out!"

Love it NotSo

Do they still call time in pubs these days, I know in our local they will serve as long as people are drinking, I suppose at some point they do close the doors but I'm usually long gone by then, perhaps I should suggest they buy a mynah bird
