Mobile phone package - grrrrrrrrr!!!
I had a sparkly new phone for my birthday last month. I am on a sim only package with Orange giving something like 150 minutes and 200 texts per month, which is more tha enough for me.
I have just looked at my bank statement and found that my monthly payment is more than £40 more than it should be! Called Orange to be told that it's my fault, because I have the data connection switched on.
Okay, so I suppose it's partly my fault (I should never have been let loose with a smart phone), but as I said to the young lady, I took a package which doesn't include any data, so I kind've assumed that it wouldn't let me use any.
I have switched just about everything off on the bl**dy phone now. You live and learn!

Ginny-t don't know if this helps but if you don't want to spend a lot you can switch to O2, monthly contract and it will cost you around eleven pounds a month, you'll get 500 min call time, limitless texts, and 500g of data to use on the internet or apps etc, more than you will ever us by the sounds of it. It's just a case of going to the O2 shop, they'll pop in the sim, keep your number etc. you can then download the O2 app on your mobile and can check daily if you ant what you've used your mobile for and if there are any hidden costs you don't expect. Hope this helps.

Thanks Ian.
I shall certainly be swapping my provider. To add insult to injury, when I called Orange to query my bill, I was told that as a loyal customer there are better value packages available to me!! Shame they didn't offer me those before.

They are naughty but I suspect they're all as bad as each other. When I got my upgrade phone from O2 it was supplied with Mobile Data turned on and used up most of my modest monthly allowance on background updates to various Apps in about 3 days! I quickly found how to tturn it off and set it so that it will only upgrade software when it has wifi.

We each have a Nokia variant using PAYG on Tesco-net (O2) ... and it's as cheap as cheese without any surprises
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

If you have only just joined Orange and wish to change provider you may be charged a fee for changing providers within you contract period. I believe it is around £30, but will vary between providers.
As others have mentioned there are plenty of cheaper deals out there. I'm with the 3 network on a monthly contract, which when I took it out about a year ago gives me 600 free minutes, 2000 3 to 3 voice minutes (wife is also on 3), unlimited texts and a GIG of data. More than enough for me, all for £10 a month on a 12 month contract. Each month they send me a text when the bill is ready. I can also keep track of my account and usage via the 3 app on my mobile

Benn with Orange for donkey's years. They really wound me up when they started to tell me that as we've been with them for a long time, we are on one of their older tariffs and that there are much better ones available. Should've told me that before, as we are currently reviewing our options ready to change.
Off on J509 on 28 June, so will probably leave it till we get back.

I'm on a one-month rolling contract with Virgin, was paying £10 pm for goodness knows how many minutes and texts, and 1Gb data - far, far more than I'll ever use. They recently cut my monthly bill to £6. Can't be bothered renegotiating to a smaller package, the capacity is there should I ever need it.
