How to copy a post into a new post?

Unread post by The Invigilator »

I see a lot of people are copying others posts into a new one and then typing a response under it. I have tried to do this on the IPad but havn't been able too. Any advice? not sure what I am doing wrong - but then you all know I am a techie wally

When you open a reply box, can you not see a "Quote" button (Top RHS)? :?:

Click on that, then type your reply under the quoted text box.

Simples! :D

You can also multi-quote ... as David pointed out to me the other day.

If you use the 'post reply' button (rather than 'quick reply' ... although you can use 'quick reply' and then select 'full editor') and scroll down you will see the previous posts on the thread. Each one has a quote button beside it .. if you click that it will add the quotes into the post as below

is it possible to

a) lift quotes from other threads?

b) have a gadget on posts that when clicked takes you back to that quote's original posting?

Egad that's clever. Knew how to do a single quote but not the multi quote thingy. 8-)

One issue seems to be that if an abusive comment gets 'censored' it may often still show under other memeber's replies by way of the quote facility. A case in point is the quoting from a.n.other member that I am a 'pompous snob' and supporting that abusive statement.

... and it is for that reason that when a post is "moderated" there is quite often a knock on effect with other posts and some perfectly legitimate posts end up having to be deleted which causes a degree of upset with some members to the extent that they leave the forum

If debris is left behind as a consequence of quotes it's a simple job to contact the moderating team who can rectify the matter.

It is amazing how 'precious' and delicate some people can be.

Purely for completeness ...

I would add that the posts in question were raised in March, or was it April, are located in a ' Locked ' Topic of limited interest but that they have now been ' deleted '.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being
