Yes well done HM. Was privileged to meet her when she (and I) were a lot younger when I was manning a display about our college project at the centenary celebrations for the Institution of Electrical Engineers and I was hugely impressed by the intelligence of the questions she asked.

Yes indeed, Her Maj is now the longest serving monarch  .

I reflected for a moment or two and thought about how life was back there in the 50s and how the populous showed a deference to Royalty that today seems so much out of place. Times have certainly changed in that regard, thankfully.

I think she deserves a period of retirement, a few cruises perhaps ;) ... time to step down now and allow a new fresher approach to emerge, along the lines as shown by the much respected Dutch Royal Family perhaps.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

I'm with you Frank, abdications are the easy way out for unpopular or tired rulers, eg Spain and Holland, I truly hope HM is never persuaded to abdicate, long may she reign.

Yes I agree.

There's no need for her to abdicate.

Over recent years some of the other royals have taken on additional public duties, but it seems as if she's happy to carry on working as much as she can.

The Queen will never abdicate, she took the job on for life and she will see it out, abdicate is not in her vocabulary.

Yes there have been some changes since she came to the throne, it is interesting that republicanism in this later part of her reign, is nowhere near as popular as it was towards the end of Queen Victoria's reign. Personally I think that is all down to our present Queen and the way she has gone about her business.

of course she should carry on as long as is possible - until her death. she did promise to serve for the rest of her life and i think she meant it. she is a marvel still doing as much as she does.

hope you had a lovely birthday brenda, and a big party at the weekend for your 70th.

Well guys and galls, I'm sure that you have all been waiting with baited breath for the travelling scribbler, based way up hear in the north of "Jockland", to impart his bit of rhetoric!! So please contemplate this: :sarcasm: :sarcasm:

Why should our wee Lizzy decide to spend such a historic day, accompanied by "Mrs Krankie", in the beautiful Scottish Borders instead of being surrounded by her English sycophants. Could it possible be that like her great, great grandmother she just prefers, Scotland, the Scottish people and our traditions than those south of the border?

Well we all know the Queen loves Balmoral and from what I read she was at Balmoral on Holiday and did not want any fuss or celebrations, she just wanted a quiet day and dinner with family

She was advised because of the significance of the occasion she should make a public appearance, it was just convenient the opening of the railway line was due, and being as she was going to be at Balmoral it would be ideal. The decision was not really hers it was decided for her.

It's interesting that a lot of members of Mrs Krankie's party want Scotland to break all ties with the queen.

Anyway the real celebrations are going to be down south in the early part of next year to celebrate the Queens 90th birthday, then there really will be a celebration, not the opening of a little branch line.

I think she just wanted to watch Mrs Krankie squirm as she sang the National Anthem and then have to make a congratulatory speech to her. Her Majesty has a really wicked sense of humour.
