The horse manure now impacts on the air-conditioning system...

Unread post by Silver_Shiney »

So, Parliament have now authorised air strikes in Syria, saying that this will make the UK safer.

Shortly after Putin authorised Russian strikes, the terrorists blew up a civil airliner in Egypt.

France has suffered horrendous atrocities as retaliation for their leading role in air strikes.

Already there has been a rumour that queues waiting to see the opening night of the new Star Wars film will be the subject of an attack.

With Putin supporting Assad and believed to be attacking the rebels as well as the terrorists, and the very dubious claims made by Turkey over the downing of the Russian bomber, I see a major conflict looming between east and west.

Thankfully, so far, Israel has kept/been kept out of it all

....Makes a change from the more usual bovine variety. but seriously, as the RAF were already bombing them in Iraq, I don't imagine that also bombing them on the other side of an arbitrary border (which they don't recognise anyway), will make much difference.

I think I agree that the bombing of ISIL is unlikely to result in outright victory against these fanatics, but I also accept that we should be seen to support the other countries, especially France, who are currently bombing ISIL on both sides of the border.
As regards what comes next and how the west should proceed if and when ISIL are defeated I confess to having no idea, but I do firmly believe that a significant part of the answer has to come from the Muslim communities in the west. The longer they remain fairly silent the more likely it is that radical youths will take their silence to indicate that they somehow condone the aims of these fanatics, and their silence then becomes as much of a recruitment policy as any Jihadist website.

I agree, John, the Muslim community has to make a much firmer stand against the violent fundamentalists
