Computer help please!
Firstly, to anyone kind enough to offer help please remember I am ignorant, well almost about computers. Right I have a website which I've Bookmarked on my laptop - Google Chrome. It's of a house holiday rental company with whom I have a booking in February. This morning I tried to access the site and couldn't. Then I tried putting in the full web address instead of going via bookmarks and that still didn't work - said Web Site Not Available.
So I called the company and they assured me that everything was fine their end. Now I've paid a lot of money to that company so by then I was starting to worry. I tried accessing the site through Internet Express - no go. Then I tried via my iPad which uses Safari - no go either. So I phoned my daughter who is only next door and got her to see if she could access the site. She had no problem, also through Google Chrome.
Well I tried googling various help sites and came across one old posting which seemed to have the same problem but I didn't even understand the advice this man was given. So now my daughter has been able to access the site and can see my booking I'm breathing more easily. I can't ask my husband about it as the booking is a surprise for his birthday in February. My son-in-law might be able to help when I see him but he's up to his eyes with work at the moment. Any advice would be gratefully received. I tried restoring my laptop to an earlier time and I cleared cookies and browsing history for a month - still no good. Any ideas - please remember I am not at all technical.

Re: Computer help please!
The only suggestion that come to mind is to power your router off and then back on as the problem would seem to be with your connection.
A web site not available message means just that - unfortunately it does not tell you why. It could just be a "blip" somewhere down the chain, or with that site at the time you tried. It seems odd that you cannot access it but can access other sites and your daughter can access it. Do you both use the same Internet provider? If not then it is possible that your Internet provider has blacklisted the site for some reason - you could always take your ipad next door and try it there.

This could be a security certificate not recognised by your browser, in advanced settings you can manage certificates but if you don't feel confident with that there is help available.
When you first open the browser press the Ctrl and H key on the keyboard which will open the History page, to the left of the page there should be a link named "About" click on this and there are help topics and even a button marked "Reoprt a Problem as a last resort.
Hope this helps Carole

This may help - maybe not - but I hope you get this sorted asap ........ I was busy with a website, and then they changed their url, including an 's' after http, so that it became 'https/www etc' .
Does inserting that 's' help at all - have they changed their url in this really tiny way - sometimes not seen easily by users?
Good luck.

Well, I've found a way round the problem although not why I can't now access the site on Chrome. I've read on here that a lot of people recommend Firefox so I downloaded it and tried again - success! I can now see my booking and am much relieved. I did check the url Boris but it's not changed. When I see my other son-in-law - he's a computer programmer - at Christmas I will ask him if the issue hasn't resolved itself. So that's an entire morning spent trying to sort this out when I should have been doing Christmas things!
If anyone else has any suggestions re the Chrome issue I will try them.
Thanks everyone!

It can be a number of things. Is it just the one website that you can't open?

Carole, try resetting your browser. Don't panic you won't lose any saved data such as favourites.

Re: Computer help please!
Well, I don't know what I did, but whatever it was it worked. This morning when I had a look, it was back - just the one website that I couldn't open - either from my Bookmarks or by entering in the full website details. So yesterday I tried the Recover thing where you can take your computer back to a previous time. I opted for 4 weeks ago. When I tried it after the Recover thing had done it's work I still couldn't access the site, although I still could on Firefox. This morning, I could! So I have no idea what was going on but thank you to those who offered suggestions. It seems odd that it was just the one website - I did try others from my Bookmarks but they were all fine. It's certainly not a suspicious site - it's a holiday cottage rental company. Very odd.

Possibly something "stuck" in your browser's cache which cleared itself when you restarted your machine.
