Terry Wogan

Unread post by Mervyn and Trish »

Sad news today of the death of the Togmeister. As someone involved in radio for 40 plus years he was an inspiration. He was unsurpassed in his understanding of, and the way he related to, his audience.

He was also very generous with his time. A few years ago I was involved in a fundraising project which involved 100 teddy bears competing to see which could get itself photographed in the most distant or unusual places.

I was responsible for Teddy No.35 and, as well as managing to get himself onto the bridge of QE2 in her final season, he was also welcomed into Terry's studio at Radio 2.

Bless him, he made mornings easier and long journeys bearable. A really lovely man.

I wonder if they will play the Floral Dance at his funeral it always comes to mind when I hear his name mentioned.

We really enjoyed his documentary with Mason the taxi driver on their round Britain trip and of course we all know what a great job he did on the Eurovision Song Contest.

RIP Tel

What an awful few weeks it has been with so many well-known people dying.

RIP Terry.

So sad. So sudden. He was so delightful. So ordinary but at the same time so special. This was a complete shock. I had no idea he was so very ill although I was aware that he wasn't right. I like your picture Meg. J.

Yes, a very sad loss, but I was pleased to see that all the tributes so far have been very upbeat, like the man himself. Never really met him (although I was on camera sitting next to him for the intro to one BBC1 "Wogan Show") but I feel sure that he would not want us to be morbid, just remember the good times.

One consolation if there can be any, it was a short illness.
