Old friends

Unread post by Frank Manning »

Have any other men out there re united with a friend they haven't seen for over 50 years, and been left regretting the lost years? My shipboard friend from 1961 and 1962, and I met up again yesterday, and today he is on his way home to Vancouver. Both of us regretting not having stayed intouch, after a day spent with our wives laughing. We may never see reach other again.

My biggest thrill was meeting, and becoming great friends with, a half brother whom I'd known existed but didn't find till we were both in our sixties.

A couple of years ago, my late step-dad's son reappeared out of the woodwork from 1971, when he and his mother had emigrated to New Zealand. He was never allowed to try and make contact with his father (his mother was extremely domineering) and he bitterly regrets that he was never able to see him again. Now in his 70s, he doesn't know what to do with his new-found freedom since his mother died.
