Driving License renewal

Unread post by towny44 »

I have renewed by driving license, as you have to once over 70, and the DVLA request that you cut up your old one and return it to them. What on earth for? Since it will expire once you reach 70 or every 3 years thereafter, do they really believe there would be a short term market for these, how many people actually looking like me are likely to require a false photo ID? They must be in league with the post office.

I have to renew my photo licence even before I'm 70 because it has to be renewed every ten years. I look forward to cutting it up. Actually for additional security I have a shredder that will deal with credit cards and CDs. Perhaps I'll stick it through that and send them the confetti.

Don't shred it too fine Merv, otherwise how will they know you have returned your old one.

I've still got my old RED one c.1964. Now that was a proper document.

I've still got my old red one too! I had notification a few weeks ago informing me that I needed to renew my license as I was reaching that dreaded age - can hardly bring myself to mention it - 70! I was really impressed how easy it was to renew. Did the whole thing online, including John taking a photo of me and then uploading it - or whatever it's called - onto the site and then completing the form and I got my new licence within the week. I too was asked to send back my old licence, cut into two, and law-abiding citizen that I am, I did just that!

I returned mine as well Carole, but I cannot understand why they make this request.

I renewed mine last April. The old one didn't need shredding - it was in four pieces held together with sticky tape anyway. It could easily have been mistaken for a Dead Sea Scroll.

My licence is like that Keechy, so much cellotape that it would have floated in the roughest sea.

The last time I hired a car in the States they photo copied my licence and the scan came out looking like a Union Jack which amused the young girl at the desk.

My licence is due for renewal in June so I suppose I'll have to surrender my ancient document for a plastic thingymebob.

Hmmmm - I think my dear old Gran had one of those (although she always had a man with a red flag walking in front of her !!)
