Email oddity

Unread post by CaroleF »

I wonder if anyone can explain something odd which has happened. Suddenly if I send an email from my laptop to a couple who I've been emailing for years it bounced back listed Mail Delivery Failed. Their address is in my Virgin Email address book - it hasn't changed or anything like that. I removed their address from my address book and put it in again but no difference. So last night, just out of curiosity really I sent them another email but from my iPad. I had a text message today to say yes they'd received it. They then sent me an email confirming this. So I sent another message by ticking reply on my laptop -it has just been returned - Mail delivery failed again.
Their email address is a Talk Talk one and I know Talk Talk have had problems but it doesn't make sense to me as to why a message succeeds from my iPad but not from my laptop. Any ideas anyone?

Does your laptop and iPad both use the same email account?

Are you using Virgins pop server or Outlook ?, I know Outlook are upgrading their mail service and there are issues, contact Virgin for help they are usually pretty good.

My wife had a similar problem in reverse, she could send & receive mail from the laptop but not her iPad, I deleted the Outlook account from iPad and re-installed it viola.

that's interesting - I send out a batch of BCC emails and keep getting a 'delivery status notice (failure)' notice - which won't open...

I have checked the sent list for anomalies - usually it's when I've removed one and the others end up are too close together - but I can see nowt wrong.

this is from my PC

This is going to show how ignorant I am. My daughter set up my email on my iPad - I have no idea which server I am using on it. Don't think it is Virgin, doesn't look like Virgin. I'll ask her. All very odd - to me at least.

This was in the press a couple of days ago Carole and could be an explanation to the problems you have experienced.

Thousands of TalkTalk and Post Office customers have had their internet access cut by an attack targeting certain types of internet routers.
A spokeswoman for the Post Office told the BBC that the problem began on Sunday and had affected about 100,000 of its customers.
Talk Talk also confirmed that some of its customers had been affected, and it was working on a fix.
It is not yet known who is responsible for the attack.
Earlier in the week, Germany's Deutsche Telekom revealed that up to 900,000 of its customers had lost their internet connection as a result of the attack.

I've just noticed Moby posted about this so you are probably already aware.

She could have set it up in the default iCloud email account Carole.

Ray I think you are right. She's away for the weekend at the moment so will ask when she gets back. I knew about the Talk Talk problem but my friends haven't had any problems sending emails and I seem to be the only one who has difficulties sending them an email. So, at the moment, I'm just using my iPad to email them.
