Colin Dexter RIP
So, it's farewell to Colin Dexter, creator of Inspector Morse, who has died peacefully at home aged 86. He's been part of Oxford for as long as I can remember and will be sadly missed.

What a talented and gifted person he was. Such gifts to the viewing (and reading) public - including Morse and then of course Lewis etc.
He's going to be much missed, but also much appreciated.

Very true. I enjoyed Morse, and particularly enjoyed Lewis. I also loved the fact that it was a complete 2hour (well 2 hours less adverts) programme which meant an enjoyable evening. Oxford provides a wonderful background.

Certainly does but it spoils it a bit if you know the city - especially when you see that old reg Jag turn a corner and immediately appear somewhere you know is 2 miles away !CaroleF wrote: 22 Mar 2017, 11:20Very true. RIP Colin.
I exchanged a few words with him a couple of years ago at a lunch at Wadham College where he was the guest of honour and guest speaker. Unfortunately his profound deafness precluded any long conversation but I thanked him for all the pleasure that he had given me. He had been involved at Wadham at one time and some of the programmes had been filmed there. Well before that he had been an undergraduate at Christ's College, Cambridge and so was an alumnus of mine albeit some eighteen years before me.
