I think that it should be the first thing to be on the negotiating table - in fact it would probably be worth the x billion Euros just for that.Mervyn and Trish wrote: 04 May 2017, 18:46When we leave the EU can we bail out of Eurovision too please?

How long has Australia been in Europe? Not that I am complaining as they gave us 12 points!

Re: Eurovision 2017 ( 13 May)
I switched it on just after the voting started. That got me thoroughly confused. They've changed the voting process since I last watched it and it took me ages to work out how they were doing it. Then there was the audience votes in each country to be added - got confused even more. Our entry was doing well until they added in the audience votes then we went down. Still a creditable result for us compared to previous years.
I thought the guy singing the Portugal entry looked very pale then I read about his medical condition so I'm not surprised he looked pale. Nice to see Portugal win for the first time. I may be wrong but aren't they our oldest allies?

Love it or hate it l thought Luice Jones did our country proud.....she sang her little heart out and deserved much better than her 15th finishing position.
btw....l quite like the once a year extravaganza.

The voting always used to be the best, and funniest bit, since everybody voted for their allies and against their enemies.
I was taught to be cautious

I think we'll never do much better for a number of reasons.Onelife wrote: 14 May 2017, 17:05Considering Lucie Jones song was one of the better ones it would appear we ain't got a lot of friends and a lot of enemiesoldbluefox wrote: 14 May 2017, 15:05The voting always used to be the best, and funniest bit, since everybody voted for their allies and against their enemies.![]()

Despite the anti Brexit lobby, that was not a factor in my view as this was our best result for several years.
However, we can't win because we're not part of a bloc, such as the Baltic states, Scandinavia, or the former Yugoslavia, who all vote for their neighbours. Our only hope is to give independence to Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales and all vote for one another.
Another factor is the odd way the voting works. You have to be top ten in a country to get any points at all. So if we came number 11 in every single country's voting we'd still get zero points. Whereas if Cyprus puts in a truly awful song which every country scored bottom, except for their mandatory top score from Greece, they'd get 12.
Another voting factor is the large number of expats that countries such as Poland have. Their expats living abroad can still vote for them and count. By comparison we have relatively few expats and most of them are in Spain, so we might get a point or two there, but nowhere else.
We might as well face it. Our winning days are gone. 15th is pretty good.
