Hot, hot, hot

Unread post by anneed »

Just idly wondering if I was in the hottest place place in the UK among Forum members. I'm in Southampton where it's currently 31 degrees - can you top that?

Tis 39 in our ' Garden Room ' ... but it drops to a mere 34 in one's actual Darzet garden.

We have been going out for a drive in the car every few hours, not to see anything but because the car has aircon

IT has been hotter in Bournemouth than anywhere else in the country today.

Temperatures hit the 30.5C (86.9F) mark at 2pm, the highest reading across the country, according to the Met Office.

Too hot for us ole farts

I was up in the frozen wilds of Derbyshire yesterday and the car thermometer never registered more than 17 all day. Arrived home at 6:30 and it was 25 !!

We've gone out and got a new Dyson fan thing, and it's great - especially at night.

I find it so uncomfortable that I've sworn that I won't moan when it's a wet, miserable day - well I'll try anyway!

Only 29 today and I'm looking forward to a jolly good thunder storm tonight. Best place to be I've found is in Sainsbury's. I'm usually chilly in there but it felt lovely in the Hedge End branch today. Mind you, they were pulling blinds down over the chilled food because it was still too warm. Should be some nice bargains in the reduced section later!

Instead of sticking my head in the gas oven tonight, I think I'll put it in the fridge

Hottest June since 1976. And remember back then scientists told us we were entering a period of global cooling.

Wonderful how their predictions always come true eh?

I know what you mean, qbman. We were in Sheffield for a few days and I remarked that it felt chilly on that day (although I had gone out without a cardigan). The trouble was on the really hot days we hit the shops for the air-conditioning and that hit our wallets badly.

You must have very small wallets, Maureen - I thought the only shops in Sheffield were Poundland and charity shops !!

No, that's the Isle of Wight you are thinking of. Sheffield is heaven to me - Boundary Mills, Meadowhall, Atkinsons, John Lewis etc etc.

Fair enough, but trust me - if it's fish & chips you're after then Matlock Bath is the place to be. Every other shop is a chippy restaurant !!

We've had the mother of all thunder storms down here in the Garden of England

It was like being in Florida

Two benefits.

Cleared the air and cleaned my car :D

I'll now have to restart my insect collection on the front of my car

We've been staying in Oxfordshire for a few days (coincidently exactly the same few days Cubie was not home to greet us). The lodge we were staying in has a sauna in the bathroom. When we arrived the temperature in the sauna was 28C. In the lounge it was 31C! Much cooler now we're heading home. You can open the curtains now Cubie.
