Election Candidates
As the "local" elections are imminent we received out postal ballots yesterday only to find that one candidate lives nowhere near our ward - in fact they live about as far away from our ward that it is possible to be.
Does anyone else think that any candidate, for any election should be a resident of thr area that they wish to represent.
I am getting fed up with all these "career" politicians whose only interest is in themselves.
Fortunately our sitting MP is local born and bred and his family still live here - not only that he does a lot of work for the town.

Re: Election Candidates
The Councillor for our area which covers our village is excellent. She has done a lot for our village over the past few years. She is local, although she doesn't live within the village boundaries but just outside, she does live within the area she represents. When there are problems she always does what she can to help. I think this shows the importance of having someone local who understands local issues and also, very important goes out of their way to get to know the locals. I can't understand how someone who doesn't live within the area they are seeking to represent can even begin to be a good representative.

Re: Election Candidates
not necessarily so... one of our ward councillors lives in our road - and as far as I can see has done naff all.
She became residents association road rep (not sure that is a good idea as it's a potential conflict of interests...) and did even less. When I complained that we'd had no newsletters etc some one else was appointed and she said when she received the paperwork from the councillor it was a work of fiction with invented names!
Our road has now been transferred to a new ward, so we escape her only to discover that her husband is standing for this new ward. They have 2 small (under 5 years old) children - so heaven knows how council meetings will work

Re: Election Candidates
We had a great election leaflet from one of the candidates, I agreed with every issue he said needed improving, the only problem is that he is a stand alone Independent which means that even if elected he will have little or no impact on council policy.
I certainly think that Guy Fawkes solution to the problems of government, national or local, might have had some merit.
