BST, GMT or what?

Unread post by towny44 »

There has been discussions, mainly within the EU, of a possible change to the current system where we change the clocks twice a year in Spring and Autumn.
My own view is for remaining with the current system but with the slight modification of moving onto BST at the end of February rather than the end of March; I wonder what the rest of the forum thinks.

Not really bothered one way or the other but would prefer not to have to waste half an hour of my life twice a year changing clocks - just as long as the rest of the world stays on their own timezone all year.

I am quite happy with things as they are, but wouldn’t jump up and down if it were to change either. Really and truly don’t have any strong feelings about it.

I would prefer not to change them at all but we live in the South ….

Now we're retired BST for me. Hate the long dark winter evenings. And we're rarely up in time for the dark mornings that would result from BST!

I would prefer another option to move one hour ahead of our present system thus giving more daylight in the evening all year round albeit at the expense of darker mornings and also lining up with most of Europe. The time changes in Ocober and March would still be retained although the March one could be moved forward to the first week of March. Dare I say move the time changes to 10 March and 3 Nov to line up with the time changes in the USA.

Not really fussed either way. Daylight is the same whatever you do.

I voted BST but I would have preferred BST+1 or failing that CET.

I hate the dark winter evenings and I hate all the clock changing. I appreciate that Scotland has a problem with the dark mornings and it doesn't help them that most of Scotland is west of most of England.

In Summer before I retired I always longed for the clocks to be GMT+2. After work the longer nights would have given more time to enjoy sitting out in the garden before the evening chill set in, I did think what a waste of daylight at 4 am.
Now that I am retired, it does not matter.
Don't worry, be happy

That's how I feel Ray, it doesn't matter too much.

However, I wouldn't been too keen on a system where it was darker in the morning. I've visited north west France in October, and it doesn't get light until about 8.45am. I tend to sleep in when it's darker.so I'd find it really difficult to get up at a sensible time.
