Notre Dame badly damaged in fire

Sad, but the way that things happen. Many churches over the years have suffered major damage and have "re-built" themselves and I suspect that one day Notre Dame will rise Phoenix like from the ashes but what I don't want to see is it being re-created as it was - it should be re-built as of today because that then becomes part of its history.

The thing that amazed me was that the fire services did not have a plan in place on how to access the place in such an emergency!

Approx 14,000,000 visitors per year at $3EU ( ? ) equates to $EU 420,000,000 over a 10 year period.

Where has all that money gone and what happened to good old fashioned Insurance.

I understand that entry to Notre Dame was free unlike many of our religious buildings. It was one of Macrons better decisions to make entry to all historic buildings free of charge.

Apparently, it is due to the nature of many of the antiquities, works of art etc. nobody would be willing to provide insurance at a price that would be viable to pay. So like many charitable organizations they self insure and hope for the best.

Err,No.!

We have visited the Cathedral, mainly for photo opportunities in all honesty, a total of three times. The last two occasions were on organised tours, one from a coach and t'other from a Riverboat. ' Donations ' per person were included in the price for each of these visits so perhaps it is ' Groups ' who get charged rather than the locals / freeloaders and this being the case it would probably represent the majority of tourist visits.
