An Epic Sunday of Sport!

Unread post by CaroleF »

How did people get on with all the sport that was on offer on TV yesterday? We were switchers. John wanted to see both the F1 British Grand Prix and the Cricket. I was keen to keep an eye on the Men's Final at Wimbledon. So it was cricket in the morning, then the Grand Prix and every time there was a break we switched back to the Cricket with an occasional glimpse at Wimbledon. Oh yes and while we were watching the Grand Prix John had the radio on quietly to keep an ear on the score. We were in Dorset for the weekend and eventually we postponed leaving for home until the end of the Super Over. Amazing! To have both Wimbledon and the Cricket so close. Such a pity that Cricket is no longer normally on Terrestrial TV. If people want to encourage youngsters to start playing cricket State schools need to include it in their curriculum, which most don't, it needs to be on Terrestrial TV and money needs to be put into encouraging youngsters, boys and girls into playing and joining clubs.

It was indeed an epic Sunday of sport Carole, our tv controller was red hot with all the Channel hopping.

No cricket today, no tennis, no women's football. It has seemed a long day!!!

We went down to Instow beach for the North Devon Hospice Float Bye ceremony.
It was wonderful in glorious sunshine, culminating in a couple of pints of Sam's Cider afterwards.

Got back in time to watch the last three overs and the add ons.
Brilliant tension.

BTW, cycled down so no drink drive issues.
It's the future, believe me

I must admit that I was impressed by the commentating on BBC for the men’s final (I’m a founder member of the ‘Andrew Castle annoys me’ club & don’t let me get started on Mr Inverdale!) To my great surprise, there was almost no chatter through the points and the comments at change of ends were quite reasonable.
I wasn’t so enamoured with the commentary on the previous day when John M & Tracy A couldn’t see beyond Serina. I thought Simone played exceptionally well and that seemed to by pass the commentators until about 59 mins into the match.
Had a great day in SW19 on Friday.
Heigh ho, have to look forward to next year’s Wimbledon.

Fantastic day! Cricket and tennis phenomenal! Grand Prix predictable. Recorded the Scottish Open golf and Tour de France. Cricket is my favourite sport followed by rugby union and golf, however La Tour makes for great viewing for the fabulous scenery, not just the race.

We watched the whole of the tennis final. What a match. Thought it was never going to end.

Tennis was the only one I watched. I don't understand cricket and formula 1 has got too predictable for me these days. Had to miss the end the tennis though as it nearly made me late for work!

What seems to be overlooked was the incredible sportsmanship of the New Zealand cricketers having suffered what must be the most appalling bad luck in that last over. Having watched almost all of the matches I would sat they were one of the most enjoyable to watch in terms of their demeanour throughout the tournament.

6 runs given instead of 5 is more than bad luck. Having said that, who knew enough about the rules and had the wherewithal to be looking in the necessary directions at the time to give the correct call. Must agree the NZ team demonstrated wonderful sportsmanship.

I enjoyed the Formula 1. Try not to ever drive in front of Sebastian Vettel. As for the rest of the last fortnight we're not big sports fans so it's been a great chance to catch up on the hours of stuff we have recorded.

Merv, I doubt you would ever get close enough to Sebastian Vettel to overtake and annoy him!

I've never been a fan of Sebastian Vettel but I do feel some sympathy for him at the moment, don't get me wrong, what he did to Max was outrageous but he must be in a really bad place and I'm not sure the Ferrari team are the best people to help him. I think Christian Horner would have been much better.

Yes I think Seb should have stayed with Red Bull, and talking of Christian Horner how is it he can make silk purses out of sows ears, they won several titles with a Renault engine that even Renault couldnt make perform, now they have transformed a Honda engine that Maclaren rarely got out of qualifying 2.
