Android security problems

Unread post by Manoverboard »

…. thought you may wish to be made aware of the problem belowas advised by Norton ...

Mobile Security Alert

Vulnerability in WhatsApp and Telegram for Android™

Download Norton Mobile Security for Android to Help Protect Your Information

What is Happening?

Cybersecurity researchers at Symantec, Norton LifeLock’s parent company, discovered a Media File Jacking security flaw affecting WhatsApp and Telegram for Android. The vulnerability occurs during the time between when a file received through the app is written to disk and when it is loaded into the app’s user interface.

This flaw could allow cybercriminals to misuse and manipulate user media files such as documents and personal photos without the user’s knowledge.

Fortunately, Norton Mobile Security for Android is designed to detect apps that exploit this type of flaw and your current Norton subscription entitles you to use it at no additional cost. The recently updated Norton Mobile Security for iOS is also included in your subscription.

Etc for subscribers regarding disabling the settings in WhatsApp and Telegram for Android that allow for Media File Jacking and to do a download to cure the problem.

Sounds like one of those facebook adverts, intended to get you to spend money on unnecessary security features.

As a Norton subscriber it is a free upgrade for one's Norton protected Android device.

I only raised the Topic to advise of the problem with Whatsit and Telewoosher

Not criticising you Moby, but the heading of the article is clearly aimed at attracting new Norton customers.

I will avoid the Whatsapp and telegram security issues by not using either of them :D
