Can Hillsborough now be put to bed for good or are they still going to be going after their "pound of flesh" some other way? - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-50592077

Re: Hillsborough
It was tragic and no one deserves to go to a football match and lose their life but I believe the correct verdict has been finally reached, a lot of things happened that day which will probably never be told but I agree with David, they still won’t be happy till someone has been nailed to the door...Let it go.

Re: Hillsborough
I doubt that the families will be satisfied, but I do agree that to try and pin the blame on one individual rather than a catalogue of inadequacies that unfortunately led to the catastrophe would not truly serve justice.

Re: Hillsborough
I'm pleased with the verdict. It was a tragic day and the victims and their families have my heartfelt sympathy. But to blame one person with the benefit of hindsight for a decision made without is not just. I knew David Duckenfield in the course of my work at BBC Radio Sheffield and he was a decent, honest, hard working bloke. He doesn't deserve the wringer he's been put through.

Re: Hillsborough
This is going to be controversial but let’s not forget that 39 Italians died at a match involving Liverpool in 1985, this seems to have been forgotten since.! Liverpool can’t understand why when Italian teams go to Anfield they cause trouble.? I know, 2 wrongs don’t make a right.

Re: Hillsborough
People do seem to want to blame someone for their loss, and in grief it is an understandable emotion. Our son was declared unlawfully killed by the coroner, and there were a chain of events at which people might be said to be to blame. In the end we had already taken the decision on the day of the incident that to save ourselves additional long term stress, we would not get involved in any public handwringing and cries for 'justice'. In retrospect it has proved to be the right decision. despite this, for up to two years after the accident we were being asked by media "Surely you want some revenge. If you can come along to the station and discuss with...…….. it might help bring it to the attention of ………., thereby giving you closure." They don't care about your closure, all they care about is 'the story'. Closure does not come in the case of close family, nor should it. We want to remember our son as he was, gentle and kind with his mum, very funny, and quite conscientious. You don't get closure from revenge and blame. you get an additional level of distress. imho.

I did not know about your son Frank but I do applaud your attitude, and I agree with you that seeking out justice via the media can only keep the pain going, happy memories are a much better way to remember a loved one.Frank Manning wrote: 28 Nov 2019, 20:47People do seem to want to blame someone for their loss, and in grief it is an understandable emotion.
