I've lost my diamond

Unread post by Holiday Planner »

I've been moving furniture all day, and have realised this evening that the diamond from my engagement ring is missing :(
I've searched the floors in the rooms I was in, but can't see it anywhere. :x

That's awful. Sounds like the house could be in for the spring clean of all spring cleans. I do hope you find it but the trouble is it could be anywhere.
Many years ago my wife lost a diamond from her ring at my mother's house. We knew it was in the lounge somewhere but despite virtually dismantling the whole room, eventually vacuuming the carpet and examining the contents we didn't manage to find it. Unfortunately we weren't insured either so it was a hefty bill.
Really we should drop clawed rings into the jewellers from time to time to have them tightened up. Ask me, do we do that now? Weeellll, what do you think?
Good luck in your search HP.

Thank you OBF - I haven't given up on finding it yet as it might be easier to spot it in daylight, BUT it is very tiny, so will be hard to see. I think the cost of replacing it may be more than the ring is worth. Altough the ring itself is 18 carat gold (but as I said, a small diamond)
It's our 30th wedding anniversary next year, so maybe I'll hold out for a new one then!

Oh fingers crossed you find it Angela these things usually turn up in the silliest of places and you wonder how it could possibly have got there

It isn't always the value of something but the sentimental value so probably worth having the diamond replaced if you don't find it

Turn all the lights out and try for a reflection from a torch ?

Failing that replace it with a modestly priced stone and then cry a little as you hold out for an eternity ring on your 30th :shifty:
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

Have you tried using a torch, it usually works for me when I drop an earring, which I seem to do often.

try the lost contact lense approach
fit a pair of tights over the end of the hoover nozzle, to catch said stone and then do a grid pattern of hoovering up and down the room
usually works when a contact lens gets lost, the tights should castch the stone before it goes into the bag or whatever

Thank you for all yor suggestions. I've tried the torch trick. Part of the problem is, it could be anywhere. I spent yesyerday emptying my son's bedroom ready for decorating. This involved dragging furniture across the landing as well as bringing up storage boxes from the garage to empty bookshelves into. I now have a horrible feeling I may have lost it in the garage as the storage boxes were wide, and I have a vague recollection of knocking my hand as I squeezed past a cupboard and back through the door. There's even a gouge in the right sort of place on the corner of the cupboard. If it is in the garage, I don't think there's much hope of finding it amongst all the junk!

I'm going into town later. I might enquire at a jewellers what the cost of a new diamond would be.

Hope you manage to find it. I lost a diamond earring in my cabin on board Oceana once. But there was so Much dust and fluff in the cabin, the chance of finding it was zilch and I had to claim on the insurance.
