Evolution

Unread post by Onelife »

I had another thinking out of the box moments this morning…. could it be that our intellectual interference of natural evolution be why we haven’t an immune system that fights off some of these viruses?

If we keep delaying evolution will we survive to the future or will we need vaccines to survive into the future?

Ok, I’ll get back in my box :)

Go back to the Bat Cave from whence the virus came may be a step in the right direction, let us know how you get on

What are we doing wrong and how should we put it right?

I’ve had a few “clicks” with my mates at the Bat cave and they say they are only providing a service of natural selection e.g. only the strongest will survive…. perhaps the Government were right in the first place in allowing herd immunity?

Sorry Keefy I thought you were talking about human evolution rather the impact we humans have on other species, which I agree has been catastrophic in many cases.
But you know my views about our immune system, there is far too much disinfecting and cleaning going on nowadays, as well as far too few children climbing trees and playing outside in the muck, and getting their cuts and grazes infected. How we expect our immune system to operate at 100% when we don't give it enough bugs to keep it fit and active is IMO the main problem.

Hi John,

To be honest I was referring to human evolution but as the article was the first thing I came across it fitted your question without me having to look further.

So, to answer your question how about…. because of medical intervention people now survive who may not have survived in the past. This means “weaker genes” are becoming more prevalent in the population, basically we have reduced the rate of natural selection in our species.

I didn’t know your views on the immune system but I confer with what you have said…eating a jam sandwich with grubby hands never did me any harm either.

We have also encouraged integration of people with umpteen different disorders and genetic defects, Hitler had some views on that topic, dangerous territory I would have thought and ethnic cleansing is a non starter as well.

Eating jam sarnies with added earth, bird poo, honeycomb and worms is deffo not for the ' snowflakes ' of our land.

I'm certainly not suggesting we withdraw any medical intervention, merely pondering the impact on the evolution of humans.

Surely using our intellect and science over thousands of years will have taken the human race down a different path than had it been left to natural selection alone?

But then you could argue, that in itself is evolution.

Evolution for me is survival of the fittest based on the natural circumstances that prevail at any moment in time.

As it is in the animal world of course, the surviving species are the stronger for it albeit there are fewer species as a consequence. The human race was the same until quite recently albeit with a few exceptions ... when you stop to think about it.
