RIP Kenny Ball

Unread post by mavismumakrill »

Kenny Ball has died today (Thursday) at the age of 82. He has been a legend and a super musician. I remember dancing to Kenny Ball and his Jazzmen at the Locarno in Hull in the '60s. Fond memories of that evening.

RIP Kenny - you will be sadly missed.

He used to always have a slot one of the comedians shows ... was it Mike Yarwood or Morecambe and Wise?
If I am totally honest I never liked jazz but the way his cheeks blew out like balloons when he played always made me laugh as a child

RIP

Saw Kenny Ball in the late seventies in Great Yarmouth at a Round Table national conference (an excuse for a weekend of boozing as I remember!). He was but a distant dot on the stage - there were 10,000 people there all dressed up - the theme was turkish delight - lots of harem pants - can you imagine! Happy memories - whenever his name is mentioned I think of that occasion - I was sorry to hear that he had died - since the news broke I've been humming Midnight in Moscow - very catchy tune.

Both my husband and I (before we knew each other) used to go to Jazzshows - 100 Oxford Street to dance to the likes of Kenny Ball, Acker Bilk etc. Wonderful days.

I got to know Kenny Ball and his mucker Aker Bilk quite well

They use to do two open air concerts every year in the grounds of NT Kingston Lacey and gigs at the Wimborne Tivoli

Both lovely men and of course both top musicians of the highest order
