If you were our PM....
…. what none related Covid 19 policy would you introduce?
My goal would be to free up green belt land and build a new town/large village next to every city in the country. All the housing must be of a good standard with solar energy heating, front and back gardens and tree lined streets in which they sit. All houses should not exceed three storeys in height with a combination of different designs, but all built within the same budget. All occupants would be Council rent payers and all would have to sign up to a community social conscience agreement…. any breach in the agreement would result in them being dispatched back to the pit holes from whence they came.
Your's ?

Re: If you were our PM....
My housing would be very similar to yours OL but it would be available to all. Since Council rent payers generally seem to have little regard for gardening they would have very little garden to take care of although I would introduce allotments for those who wanted a garden of their own. There would still be a mix of terraced, semi and detached houses and flats with solar energy heating and OL's tree lined pedestrianised streets. Cars would have access from the other side of the houses to underground parking which would eliminate on-street parking. There would be supervised and tended park areas with heavy duty play parks to deter vandalism.
To pay for it all I would expect everybody to pay their dues from those on benefit to those on PAYE and self employed. Loopholes in the tax system would be closed for all and big corporations would pay appropriate tax on any profits they make in this country. I would look to close the black economy "cash in your hand" situation and introduce a tourist tax which would go to providing improved tourist facilities.
I would also take a close look at the care system and do something about low paid care workers for whom I have the greatest respect.
That's in my first week!!! I know it wouldn't work but it's nice to dream!!

Unfurtunatly Foxy you won’t be able to fulfil that one because the media have always steered Government decision making and if they got a whiff about what you were planning (and they would) you would be out before you could say Keir Starmer

To his credit, he prefers us peasants not to use his title…. he just prefers to be known by it…is there some ambiguity in there somewhere ?towny44 wrote: 17 May 2020, 22:25That's SIR Keir Starmer to you and me Keefy.Onelife wrote: 17 May 2020, 21:33.oldbluefox wrote: 17 May 2020, 20:48In the second week I'd be putting Kuennsberg, Peston, Rigby, Barnett and one or two others on the dole queue and giving the rest a course on correct English usage like wot I use!!!

Re: If you were our PM....
Having forgone my ministerial ambitions (in favour of my good mate Foxy) I now find myself working my way back up from my janitorial duties at the H.O.C, it does, however allow me to talk another load of sh** about my next would be policy…
Seaside resort regeneration… I’m not talking about a sand castle, bucket and spade job, Oh’ no. I’m talking proper seaside face lifts.
Where possible, I envisage Palm trees, (with winter frost protection), water fountains, subtle promenade lighting (none tacky) laser projected evening sea/beach displays, fit for purpose toilet blocks, eateries with well-defined seating areas. Licenced seasonal street entertainers who will have council tax reductions for their service…. last but not least, ice cream will be free for all…I'll leave Foxy to work out how he pays for it.

Re: If you were our PM....
My first piece of legislation would be to ban the keeping of chickens in a non commercial environment.
The second would be to remove the blight that litters our beautiful countryside, I would start by crushing all caravans.
The third would be to conduct an enquiry to establish the total number of unemployed, homeless, prison inmates, sex workers and illegal immigrants that a humane housing policy could be created. The intention being that huge blocks of the usual sub standard housing be built in ever expanding circles around the town of Ludlow in Shropshire.
The building on Green Belt would remain a No-No until there was no more brown sites remaining in Urban or Rural areas.

I've a few more l would like to add.....to increase the population of hawks in Dorset
To retrospectively slap heavy fines on those who destroy precious farmland by the recklessly spraying of weedkiller.
I would set up campsites in rural areas such as Dorset for those who have fallen on bad time.and get recently released prisoners to do her shopping for them.
And l would use your country lanes for the disposal of crushed caravans.
And finally l would close A&E departments to silly buggers who close their eyes while chopping morning wood for their fires
