Re: Nuisance calls
Thank them kindly and tell them that you will pass on the information to your Dad
ps ... Did you know that the Cerne Abbas Giant was carved during the late Saxon period, so much earlier than was previously thought.
pps ... Sorry for you that the Cherries were unable to escape the Championship

Re: Nuisance calls
That’s nothing.
I found out today that I will have an arrest warrant issued against me unless I respond to something or other.
The calls seem to come in batches.
Nothing for weeks then ten in a day.
If I’m not busy, I have a bit of fun with them.
One caller hung up on me yesterday calling me a SoB
Then an hour later I had another from the same call centre so I explained to the guy how upset I was by being called a SoB by his colleague. They are not trained off script and it can be pretty funny.

Tell them they have come through to a classified UK government number where all incoming calls are recorded and traced as required.
OR
Just plain F off

The correct response is to not answer any calls whose number you do not recognise.gfwgfw wrote: 27 May 2021, 15:59I have had three phone calls telling me that my internet is being locked etc. ect.

If it is someone genuinely trying to reach you they will leave a message, and you can contact them. Many calls come from 07 numbers which are just phishing calls checking to see if the line is active (the silent ones or ones that immediately hang up). Within an hour or so, you may get a call from a number usually beginning with 020, 0161 or 030/033 - usually someone running some scam related to life insurance, broadband, HMRC, amazon etc. If you are inclined to answer then always let the phone ring a few times (some systems use bulk diallers which call several numbers at a time and whoever answers first gets the joy of being connected - all the others just go dead).
On the few occasions I have inadvertently answered a call I tell them to hold the line while I google their phone number ("who called me" followed by their number) . If it informs me it is a nuisance call I read the caller the contents of the site and see what they have to say. I then start questioning them about who they and their company are, if they still persist on the line the questions get more and more ridiculous (often involving the colour of their underwear) until they go away.
Do not be nasty with them since all they will do is pass your number to 101 other call centres and scammers.

I get loads some of them are automated. I just hang up. I also get 'you have had an accident'. I ain't. I tell them to go away, if they don't then I ask them please hold and then put my phone next to the wireless that I've just turned up. They soon go away.
Hope your well Graham. Up the Palace.

"I hear you've had an accident",
"Blimey, you're quick. The police haven't even arrived yet!"

My usual answer to the 'I hear you have been in a accident' is 'which one?'oldbluefox wrote: 27 May 2021, 21:02"I hear you've had an accident",

That used to flumux them and they didn't know how to answer, but they have got wise to that one. They now try the old 'we don't get that information from your insurance company due to GDPR', so I ask 'which insurance company'. Sometimes they actually know (or guess right) so the response is 'You are too late, I just handed that one over to a chap who called me yesterday'. Last one got cheeky and asked who it was, I just told him that I couldn't give him that information 'due to GDPR'.

We have a Big Numbers BT Phone with ' Blocking ' facilities, We are signed up for caller display and, as Ken says, we do not answer anything that we do not recognise. All numbers that we do know are ' named '.

I get zero on the landline.
Mine are all on my mobile.
Actually thinking about it, I can’t remember the last time the landline rang.

A friend of mine does similar. He goes into drama queen mode saying how he lost his wife and children and how it still haunts him. His two favourite lines areMeg 50 wrote: 28 May 2021, 09:07we've now got call blocker - so they rarely get thro'.oldbluefox wrote: 27 May 2021, 21:02"I hear you've had an accident",

but when they used to get thro - I always asked if that was the accident where I died
- if only I hadn't been so drunk when driving home, maybe they would have survived
- there was bits of my wife everywhere, but despite searching I couldn't find the bits I was looking for
