New British Flag Ship
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-57293882
While I think it is a nice idea I really hope that it does not look like the picture shown (that looks like a revamped 1960's fishing trawler). I am sure the designers will come up with something modern and sleek looking. There is a huge budget for this so we can take pride in this and look forward to hearing of the royal family hosting a state dinner onboard Boaty McBoat Face.

I like it, it has the same ' regal style ' as the Royal Yacht Britannia had at launch.
' The Duke of Edinburgh ' would be a suitable name, for me.

Re: New British Flag Ship
It looks to me like a revamp of Britannia. I thought they might go for something different.
My wife, who knows all things royal, tells me the Queen does not want it to be dedicated to the Duke of Edinburgh. I expect it will be named after previous royal ships/yachts. Pity it wasn't built shortly after Britannia was retired but that was hardly likely with Bliar in charge.

I fancy something more like 'streets of Monaco' except of course it would 'Streets of London' (since nowhere else in the UK matters).

Given the way governments price things you sort of know that is the price point it will end up at

I think it might have to be named Prince Philip since I believe the D of E title will pass to Edward when the Queen dies.Manoverboard wrote: 30 May 2021, 09:34I like it, it has the same ' regal style ' as the Royal Yacht Britannia had at launch.

Just name her “Regina” that way it covers past, present and future queens.
Failing this you could call her "0nelife" because according to Stephen I’m the biggest Queen on the forum

I was just pointing out that the D of E title will over time not refer to Prince Philip for the younger generation.Manoverboard wrote: 31 May 2021, 08:47Does that actually matter ?towny44 wrote: 30 May 2021, 16:35I think it might have to be named Prince Philip since I believe the D of E title will pass to Edward when the Queen dies.Manoverboard wrote: 30 May 2021, 09:34I like it, it has the same ' regal style ' as the Royal Yacht Britannia had at launch.

Re: New British Flag Ship
Understood but does it matter, it's just a ship with a name that right now is a tribute to her Maj ?towny44 wrote: 31 May 2021, 11:25I was just pointing out that the D of E title will over time not refer to Prince Philip for the younger generation.

I may have been 10 years out but I did say it looked more like a fishing trawler than a Royal yacht

Re: New British Flag Ship
Having been a guest on both the Royal Yacht Britannia and a Cornish fishing trawler I know which I would prefer to go cruising on
