Car insurance
I've just added my son to my car insurance - the family are visiting this weekend and I am returning with them. He will be sharing the driving with me hence the change to my policy. What I am taken aback by is that I will pay less than I am paying now per month - why is this? I am sure one of you will know the reason - thanks in advance

Re: Car insurance
Car insurance premiums are a "black art" that nobody understands - even the insurance companies

Hi Jan, this might explain part of it but as David says, nobody knows the mystical workings of insurance ... except now they have to give you their best offer on renewal and not some inflated price.

Some for us Jan. Also the other way round, our son added his father to his insurance and the price dropped.

I hope not!!! I drive a "boy racer" car - Mini Cooper S but admit I do like to put my foot down - within limits of course
Thank goodness my son lives 190 miles away as he's always been a Mini fan - he's looking forward to taking the wheel again - I'm not as I'm not a very good passenger

Re: Car insurance
A number of years back we talked with the insurers LV regarding adding our son for a couple of weeks, the kind person at LV said including himon the policy would reduce the premium. We have now done this for a number of years

We have also done this for many years but there have been changes. I still am put on my son & daughter’s policies ( neither live with us) as it reduces their premium. I used to have one or both on our policy but the last couple of years they would have increased my premium. I’m not sure of the logic behind ‘extra drivers reduce premiums’ I did wonder if claim by one of the named drivers on their own policy would affect my policy- fortunately that hasn’t happened.

Re: Car insurance
That was my intention Ray - just a couple of weeks cover to share the driving but I’m going to keep him on the policy when I renew in September as long as the terms are favourable of courseRay Scully wrote: 28 Jul 2021, 14:57A number of years back we talked with the insurers LV regarding adding our son for a couple of weeks, the kind person at LV said including himon the policy would reduce the premium. Re: Car insurance
My insurance company wanted to increase my premium when, after Paulines stroke, she gave up her license. I pointed out the stupidity of this to my broker, and eventually the insurer agreed not to increase the premium.
