Mattress Prices

Unread post by Stephen »

How much would you pay for a new mattress. Fourteen thousand pounds?

I thought the ones we were looking at were expensive at M&S and Dreams. These blow them out of the water.

I always wondered if those 'always on special offer' TV advertised ones (Dormeo, Emma, Simba ... I think) were any good

I think it's a minefield. I'm in the process of choosing a new mattress. It's such an easy thing to get wrong. I'm buying a new bed from Sofa.com - yes they sell beds as well as sofas, very good sofas too as I've had one from them before - and they do sell a smallish range of mattress. At the moment I'm trying to decide between getting one from them - from a shop not online - or one from a local store, like Dreams, Benson for Beds etc. There is a largish John Lewis in Southampton but they don't have a huge choice. I think I'll just have to go and sample a few, but I know from previous experience it's so easy to get it wrong.

We’ve recently bought another healthopedic Zeus 3000 mattress £438 (land of Beds) we bought the first one 3 years ago and paid nearer £600. Lovely comfortable mattress at a great price. The only problem is that it is standing up in the spare room awaiting the bedroom furniture. Our delivery from Oak furniture land has been very slow this time around. Apparently, all of their furniture has to be shipped halfway round the world…roll on 6th November which is supposed to be our revised delivery date.

We actually tried out this one at M&S Bluewater this week. We both liked it. The only thing that is putting me off is some of the reviews. The most recent one being one of them. The last thing I want is problem down the line only to find M&S try to wriggle out of any warranty claim.

It’s a large expense, especially as we would need the whole set up, mattress, divan and headboard, not to mention linen. So need to get it right.

As Carole mentioned, it’s a bit of a minefield.

So far we have always had a sprung mattress the latest with a memory foam type topping but it seems the trend nowadays, even on the Which recommendations are moving either towards a hybrid spring and memory foam mattress or a fully blown (!!!) memory foam. I'm very much undecided about the comfort of these newer mattresses or their durability.
I notice Keefy had one for three years. Not sure what he gets up to in bed but I would expect more that three years from a mattress costing £600+. Which best buys are from the Eve and Emma ranges £500+ of which the Emma Original seems great value at £649.
I was taught to be cautious
