Hi Carole, you may have heard that there has been a major shortage of Coco Beans this past year, this has had a major influence on chocolate production, it is for this reason I have decided to give you a box of my very own hand-crafted VIP chocolates, Enjoy!

Happy Birthday Carole

Wow! Handcrafted chocolates, can't wait! I'm at a lovely hotel just outside Bath, sitting looking at snowy covered grounds, very pretty. Not too much snow, just a light dusting but enough to make the trees look magical. I've just seen some hotel guys walking past carrying Christmas trees, real ones, which are presumably destined for somewhere in the hotel although there are several around already. Thank you all for the good wishes. I'm away with both my daughters and my sister-in-law for a few days. It's certainly a lovely time of year to stay in a hotel in the countryside.

No it's not the Piggy Hotel, although I have been to the one in the New Forest, Brockenhurst. This, I think is nicer. When John and I stayed in the Pig our room was in a different building and unfortunately each night, it was January, for our wedding anniversary and wet. So we had umbrellas to walk from the room to the main building and then after dinner, which was lovely, we had to go back outside in the rain for the walk down various paths to our room. The hotel we are in now does have a separate block of rooms but we are staying in the main house which I think is much nicer. Just had a lovely open sandwich for lunch in front of the log fire and a glass of something sparkling, lovely.

Thank you all very much. Had a lovely meal last night in Bath at a fantastic fish restaurant called The Scallop Shell which is where we went a year ago and although it can be fatal going back to somewhere you've enjoyed this place is still amazing. I really recommend it if anyone visits Bath. It's basically a fish and chip restaurant but the variety of fish dishes on offer in addition to the usual battered fish is wonderful. I'd never had thought of having monkfish with aioli, garlic and fish, but it was lovely. That was last year, this year I had grilled Hake with the more traditional tartare sauce, which was still great. The starter was huge prawns done in parsley and garlic, we had four of them which I shared with one of my daughters, served complete with finger bowls. On learning it was my birthday I was immediately given a lovely glass of Prosecco. We have also found a great taxi driver who is willing to travel the 15 mins or so from the hotel into Bath and then come and collect us afterwards and doesn't charge the earth either. All in all a lovely birthday.

Hi Carole, I was enjoying your Birthday until you mentioned โ€˜Fishโ€™โ€ฆMy wife force-feeds me a piece of cod in batter once in a blue moon but other than that the mere smell of fish turns my stomach.

It sounds like a Birthday you will remember for a long time. Are all your Birthdays as rememberable as this one? :)
