Chop,Chop.

Unread post by Onelife »

I had a trailer load of logs delivered today (probably the equivalent to two builder bag loads) at a cost of £130. I always have a moan at the cost of logs but it was mostly Ash so I decided to keep my mouth shut while handing over the notes.

What are you paying for logs these days?... We’ve witnessed a 25% increase this past 18 months.

Bound to be expensive. Logs don't grow on trees you know.

£130 for two bags of logs. A bargain

Around here they cost that and more for just one builders bag.

I am expecting a delivery this morning ... 1 cubic meter of kiln dried logs for £155

Mine will be 20% water but yours will probably be over 50%

Take care with ash cos much of it is diseased, die back I think, and it doesn't burn at all well

All in all I think your logs are rubbish, my advice is to put them on the fire and burn them
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

Kiln dried is the way to go. My supplier assures me my electricity and gas are kiln dried.

I suppose that is one of the many advantages of living in the lovely Shropshire countryside  ;)

£155 for one cubic metre? You must be loaded Moby. I changed supplier for this load and am quite pleased I did…all logs cut to 8ins - size does matter you know :) and the wood looks very dry….I’ll let you know how it burns tomorrow.

Get yourself a moisture meter and check the water content. Cheap as chips on Amazon. Anything under 20% is fine to burn.

At the price you got them they're probably so water logged they've probably got some Vikings name scratched on them :D

I always buy a tipper truck load of mixed but mainly hardwood.
I fill the log store and the rest in the garage.
That easily lasts all winter and last time cost £180.
The guy who I buy from is a bit of a looky likey but delivers when I ask, for readies obviously.

Seems a lot of time and energy goes into this wood burning malarkey, moving, chopping, stacking, fetching, setting a fire and then dealing with the ash and dust.
I love my programmer, it turns the heating and H/W on and turns it off while I'm waking up and getting on with my day. 🎉
Don't worry, be happy

Me too Ray. Not swamping Trish's washing in smoke either. Much less grief..

Well, I lit the fire last night with some of my less than 8% retentive moisture logs and I have to say 'Ash' is the way to go from now on...good heat, slow burn.

Eat your heart out Mob

I've got plenty of ash in the log burner already. I'll give it a go later. Could save me a fortune :D

Good man, don't forget to give us a shout when the chimney catches fire

ps ... I have found a company who sell Kiln Dried ' Bits ' at a fraction of the cost of 8" logs.
