It is going to cost a lot to build a secure border. Wire, crossing points, lots of border patrols etc etc. after all as Scotland won't be in the EU we have to treat it like it was say Turkey!. Then all the scots who live here will have to decide which nationality they want to be. If scottish they will have to apply for visas and residence permits and of course obey all the immigrant regulations.

Taking that one stage further there will be a major security issue with the control of the Scottish borders in that if they are not careful it could end up as an easy route into England for terrorists.davecttr wrote:It is going to cost a lot to build a secure border. So whose navy will be patrolling Scottish waters? Not the Scottish navy because they will not have one - it will be the Royal Navy, at a price.

Re: Scotlands Referendum.....are we bothered?
I've listened to both sides of the arguement and my conclusion is ............ nobody knows how it will be if Scotland go independent.
It's all at best a guess.
A fair bit of scaremongering on both sides but I would add that if I was Scottish, I would want total home rule, and not be governed by another country, what ever the consequences.
It may also bring England down a peg or two and stop us trying to police the world.
The Uk spend on military is quite horrendous when compared to similar sized countrues.

I don't get this being ruled by another country bit. We have a UK parliament at elections to which all UK citizens have a vote. The Scots have more say in English affairs than vice versa because they have local control over some things, such as health, which the English do not. And I'll say again, as I have before, where did the Chancellor/PM that got us into the present mess come from? Scotland.barney wrote:If I was Scottish, I would want total home rule, and not be governed by another country, what ever the consequences.

Re: Scotlands Referendum.....are we bothered?
What has it got to do with the Poles MOB?
Whoops sorry, I read that wrong.
What with the Tories imploding, (as ever!), the Scots knifing Britain in the back, and our pussyfooting PC civil service making error upon compounded error, that's surely plenty to start a good argument on this forum.

I have to laugh when I hear the SNP claim that only an independent Scottish parliament can adequately represenr their views, because in my view it's the English who have the short straw in this area. Scotland, Wales and N Ireland already have their own devolved govt. but for us English no such benefit.
I just hope that whatever the outcome of the vote there is a major reduction in non English MPs at westminster to reflect the proportion of devalution to the other UK countries.

Re: Scotlands Referendum.....are we bothered?
Tut! Tut! There was me trying to start a discussion about something provocative, and all you lot can debate is how close we are to the Poles. With the number living in Southampton, I would say a lot closer than you'd think. But then Scotland is nowhere near Southampton either! So we are closer to the poles than they are.
I am losing it definitely losing it.
