This reminds me of when my husband was admitted a few weeks after his grandmother died - and yes, they wanted to put him in the same bed/place she died in. He point blank refused and they took him to another bay.

Thanks, Stephen.

She was discharged from hospital yesterday and is now back home. I went down last Sunday and visited her on the ward and she seemed quite chipper. I planned on going back on Monday and she phoned me in the morning to say she could come home. I sent a message to that effect round family and friends, and my sister kicked off and told the hospital they had to keep her in until they investigated the sharp weight loss and have a scan done for the bowel cancer consultant, so Monday afternoon ended up being a "normal" visit - with her sat there in her day clothes and her case packed...

It was definitely not an aneurysm and they think it might be a leakage from where she had half her bowel removed. The whole abdomen is inflamed so they've given her antibiotics. The dietitian has agreed that ready meals are the way forward, as half the problem of her not eating is having to prepare the food and then she doesn't fancy it, so if she gets ready meals that she just nukes, it should get round that issue. She's also been seen by an occupational therapist, who suggests installing an alarm button. She had a cystoscopy yesterday and we'll see what the consultant has to say about that.

I told her that if she doesn't start to look after herself and that means eating and drinking properly, we'll have to make difficult decisions that we don't want to make regarding putting her in a care home.

We're hoping that this incident has been a serious wake-up call to her.

I had my mind on September dates as I'm thinking ( well mind just about made up ) about booking a short 4 day cruise and those dates were fixed in my mind which is why when I said next week would have made it the following week .. don't worry about not following me it's the excitement

Update

Back from seeing the consultant. A nice man with a good sense of humour, so he'll do for me

The short of it is I'm booked in for the 15th September for an over night stay, maybe two for investigative surgery / biopsy. Until he gets a look at the 'lesion' as he was calling it he cannot tell what will be involved. If it looks like a simple problem to sort out he will do it there and then. Obviously the biopsy will tell what it is and if further treatment is needed, but that takes two weeks to come back so I'm not going to hear anything until the end of September.

All done from inside. You can guess where they enter from! Thankfully I will be asleep. I said to him, you can do what you like as long as I'm out of it. My eyes might be watering afterwards though :).

As for the cyst on the right kidney, that looked the size of a golf ball. He wasn't too concerned about that as the 'Lesion' is taking priority understandably, although it's the cyst that is causing me the discomfort. Anyway that will be another operation at a later time.

So there you have it, basically carry on with life as normal for now.

I'm thinking of putting in for a hospital season ticket.
Stephen

Glad to hear things are moving forward, I hope everything turns out positive, my thoughts are with you.

Regards

Derek

Ps I am fine, everything healing nicely

'Lesion' is just a medical term for 'problem', and I've had a few of those myself. Good luck mate, at least they're on your case :)

Thanks Derek and QB. Yes, it's good to know I am in the system with this consultant and things are moving on, although I think it's a bit of a nerve of him taking a week off this coming week ;)

He made me laugh though at my appointment. Apparently when he came out of his consulting room and called my name everyone else in the line stood up. He thought 'they can't all be Stephen Hunt'

Glad to hear your recovery is going well Derek

Best wishes Stephen, and to Alan's mum

I've got a bit of a health issue of my own going on.

This year I've had hearing loss,,tinnitus and vertigo.

The MRI scan ruled out anything very nasty.

I had an appointment at the 'balance clinic' today, thinking i was going to get advice about exercises I could do to help with the vertigo.

The consultant I saw jerked my head around a bit and announced that he thinks I've got Meniere's Disease and wants to treat it by bunging in a grommet!

I'll be getting an appointment for more extensive tests, then another appointment with the consultant and then the operation.

It is a minor procedure, but after doing some reading up, I'm a bit confused about why he's going for a surgery, rather than trying other treatments first, like diet and lifestyle / and or drugs, especially at this point, as I'm not finding it intruding too badly on my lifestyle. I'll have to ask him about this when I see him next time

I've been advised to start a low salt diet, which I'm happy to do, as I will feel I'm doing something positive. I'd personally rather try the diet and avoiding caffeine and stress as a treatment first, then drugs, then surgery as a last resort.

Just a bit bemused today!
Gill

Sorry to hear about your problems, Gill. Tinnitus is a blasted nuisance - I reckon mine is caused by damage to my eardrums from gunfire. If I wiggle my ears, I can feel/hear gunge crackling around in my inner ear and I reckon a grommit would help drain that out but the doctor hasn't suggested it. It's a simple procedure, my son had it done when he was a little boy.

I sympathise with you both. Tinnitus or tittinus as I sometimes call it is nuisance. I have it in my left ear, a constant whistle. Tests and a brain scan revealed nothing, not even a brain ;) so I just have to live with it.

I just add it to the list

Phone call yesterday with confirmation letter to follow. Tuesday the 9th for pre op tests and will be a staying over night on the 15th.

Stephen,
Unfortunately, we have to be on Arcadia when you go for your tests so we won't know how you're getting on. We hope everything goes well for you and we'll catch up with your posts when we get back.

When we say 'Unfortunately...' well, someone has to do it.

Thank you for the reassurance, at least it's something simple... but not sure if I want it, if there's other things I could do first.

I'm just looking at my salt intake - from today I'm listing the salt content of everything that I eat

From the reading I've done I think I need to limit myself to around the 4g mark

As a starting point, I'm just eating what I would have done normally - currently at 2.8 g, which actually isn't too bad. But work will be needed, from now I'll be making everything from scratch, so I know exactly what's in there

Quiet on here today. Where is everyone.

Well the time is drawing near, only four days to go. And so far (yesterday) I've been pumped up, weighed up, measured up, swabbed up, bled, questioned, oh, and heart checked. The last one did take a bit longer to do though as they had a job finding it. They said I had the heart of the Grinch
